I guess you could think of them as part of the development life cycle. As a build goes through the rings it should become more stable and have less "New".

RP is the last ring (testing) before the Feature update becomes widely available on Windows Update. RP should have very tight change management controls, you can fix, you cannot introduce new. It is also likely that they are now treating the Feedback hub from RP users with more diligence.

Last Feature update, 1809, they skipped RP and paid dearly as did a number of their clients.
Isn't the May 2019 release rollout approach about the release to the general public and not the Insider or RP builds. If not I stand corrected. Most of the general public doesn't even know about the Insider or RP builds and didn't ask to use their computers for testing.

My understanding is that RP (Release Preview) is the last Insider-user-volunteer-testing stop for each new Feature Update before actual release to the general public. Insiders of the Skip-Ahead, Fast, Slow, and RP rings get early access to new features in development, in return for serving as 'guinea pigs' for sometimes buggy software.

Yep Release Preview is the final leg of the testing before general release.

I know what the Insider and RP builds are. I'm referring to the post that makes it sound like the May 2019 rollout is about the Insider and PR builds and not about the rollout to the general public.

And as my Father-In-Law used to say "Wish in one hand, hold your other hand over your butt, and see which gets filled first." Making a system image on a disconnected drive tonight.

In Microsoft language "Late May" means Friday. So it all checks out. I think it's pronounced latemate, but I'm not sure.

I do not care what any of your relatives had to say. I am on 18362.86 and I am not on the IP. It is not good manners to make jokes or laugh at what members post! @Faith Late May would make a mockery out of MS's naming convention of 1903.
