    Can I skip this update?
Sorry, I couldn't get to answer your question on time, because I couldn't use my computers for a while —Full system image backup + Full data files backup on every first Sunday of the month.
I think that both @f14tomcat and @Bree in posts #92 and #94 respectively have well answered your question correctly. I would add that KB4490481 sits in "D" category and therefore doesn't contain any security fixes. Next patch Tuesday update (after tomorrow) should supersede anything you are missing from KB4490481 since it is also a CU and will contain some security fixes.

Restored an image. Deleted reg keys. Installed this update. All good. WMC still works.

Putting aside if it's wise to use WMC as it's a bit dated, I think...? How mere font can trip the OS - especially if said font comes from the OS's manufacturer?

I don't think you understand how smart the long term denizens of TenForums are. If it can be made to work, they will make it work.

Also, I just checked and there are a few gazillion links on how to set Windows Media Center up in Windows 10, one of the latest being from ghacks.net.

Totally agree. I can confirm that all my machines had T-S WMC 8.8.1 from the mydigitallife forum on them. I have deleted the relevant keys and made a restore point. Into that dark night I go. Maybe I will take one for the team.......maybe it will all be OK. See you on the other side of the update. Fingers crossed.

    :)
