"already up to date", But you don't have it (KB4490481) in Update history. Like I mentioned before, you can try the direct download link to get it from the Microsoft Update catalog —See the first page of this thread— but make sure to have a restore point first or preferably a system image backup. This will definitely let you know if you can get this update to install to completion or not.
    Can I skip this update?

Ran the update from Windows update on 2 of my 13 PC's.
    BSOD on both !!!!
    First time EVER for both.
One is an ABS i7-8700k with ASUS MB.
Other is an older Lenovo with AMD processor.
Thank god for Synology "Active Backup for Business"!!!
I HOPE Microsoft removes this update before Tuesday !!!

In 2 days it will be Patch Tuesday. IMO, just ignore for now and see what you get Tuesday. CUs are cumulative, you won't miss anything. If you get nothing on Tuesday, then you can put your worry hat back on.

Update - Ran the MSU file listed on the first page.
    Same result - BSOD.
It does the first 30% update and crashed on the reboot after that.
Because it is in the middle of installing Windows cannot recover.
PC would be dead if not for my system backup to NAS !!!

The only CU that is delivered automatically through windows update is the 'B' release on Patch Tuesday. That one you should not skip because it includes new security patches as well as quality fixes. Any 'C' or 'D' release CUs later in the month are entirely optional as they do not have any new security fixes. Skip those as much as you want, the non-security fixes they contain will be in the next Patch Tuesday CU.

Most users are familiar with what is commonly referred to as “Patch Tuesday” or Update Tuesday. These updates are published on the second Tuesday of each month, known as the “B” release (“B” refers to the second week in the month), and are the only regular monthly releases that include both new security fixes and previously released security and non-security fixes.

We also release optional updates in the third and fourth weeks of the month, respectively known as “C” and “D” releases ... These updates have only non-security fixes.... (we make these optional to avoid users being rebooted more than once per month).

No, to anandbb. I was backing up the point you made, hence the quote. Sorry if I caused any confusion

Gonna skip this update as it's causing bsod on some machines.

Can I manually update windows on Tuesday by downloading msi from catalog. will this method force windows update service to not download KB4490481?

When the patch Tuesday update is available it may be offered to you and may start downloading and installing, unless you pause updates before 10am Pacific time. You can then get the KB from the catalog by using the links at the top of the page, like the ones at the top of this thread, but on the announcement thread Shawn will post. I do not know the consequences of bypassing this KB entirely, since there may be prerequisites in it for the Patch Tuesday CU. You can try, I do not know, nor does anyone, what will be in the Tuesday patches. Security updates and a Flash Update, and MRT for sure, but not specifically any others.
