    @Bree,
    This is not the first time that Windows Update is pulling out this kind of quirk (installing the same update twice). It is as if something was amiss in the first install for some reason or another sans failing, and has to be reinstalled in order to make the install complete. That's my take, but I really would like to know what's behind this weird behavior. Maybe, we will find out soon enough.

    By the way, I didn't get it to install twice so far.

    I didn't 'get it to install twice' either - well, not through any action on my part. This was on Home and windows update's automatic daily check had decided to reinstall it all on its own. I just happened to look in Settings at the right time and found that it was already half way through the second install.

    Pro or Home, this is not normal behaviour as I put it. Additionally, it seems that I was right in my guessing (post #60) according to the "Second solution" in this article:
    Sometimes Windows can keep installing the same update over and over. This usually happens if the update isn’t completely installed or properly installed

    Did a bit of bouncing between "Getting Ready" and "Installing" but eventually installed.

    So am I, but this is an optional update. You will not get it automatically, you will only get it if you click 'Check for updates' (as I did).

    Your profile says you have Pro. Some have found previously that if you have set a number of days to defer Features Updates it can interfere with finding quality updates.

    However, that may not be the case here. On the 2nd. I checked for updates on a couple of machines running Home and they found and installed KB4490481. I have just checked for updates on two other machines running 17763.379, one Pro the other Home - neither can find KB4490481, just Defender definitions. Perhaps MS have withdrawn it?

    Edit: possibly because of reports like this....

    I like doctorwizz above also have BSOD on every machine I have after restarting to complete this update.

    Hmm, As I said in post #67 above, I have just checked for updates on two 17763.379 machines and they do not find KB4490481, it appears to no longer be available through windows update. The 2nd install on my machine that already had it may be related to this. Perhaps undoing the 'something' in the 1st install that was prompting the BSoDs? (guessing here)
