When the patch Tuesday update is available it may be offered to you and may start downloading and installing, unless you pause updates before 10am Pacific time. You can then get the KB from the catalog by using the links at the top of the page, like the ones at the top of this thread, but on the announcement thread Shawn will post. I do not know the consequences of bypassing this KB entirely, since there may be prerequisites in it for the Patch Tuesday CU. You can try, I do not know, nor does anyone, what will be in the Tuesday patches. Security updates and a Flash Update, and MRT for sure, but not specifically any others.
Ok thanks for the info 😀

Someone on another web site figured out the BSOD issue.
Users with WMC 8.8.2 installed experience the BSOD.
WMC 8.8.2 is a commonly used replacement for Windows Media Center from Win 7 (and 8.1).
I confirmed this by uninstalling WMC 8.8.2 and then installing KB4490481 using Windows Update.
    No BSOD !!!

Yep, I have 8.81. HDHR USB network OTA tuner. Uninstalled it and this update went fine. Also in that MDL thread, a user post this to fix it. Those that tired it said it worked. I have not tried it yet. Saw that post too late.
You don't even have to uninstall WMC. Do this:

    Try removing entries from registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontLink\SystemLink]
    -MS PGothic MC
    -Segoe Media Center
    -Segoe Media Center Light
    -Segoe Media Center Semibold

Registry entry removal works either before installing KB4490481 (with WMC 8.8.2 installed)
    OR
after first installing KB4490481 and then installing WMC 8.8.2.

    Remove entries from registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontLink\SystemLink]
    -MS PGothic MC
    -Segoe Media Center
    -Segoe Media Center Light
    -Segoe Media Center Semibold

    BSOD FIXED !!!

You neeed to run the uninstall.cmd as admin. Same folder as the installer.
My install folder is on the root drive named WMC-V8.8.1
IDK how to tell which version. But you could download 8.8.2 and run the uninstaller from there.

I suggest trying the regedit first. WMC can't find my tuner after re-install of WMC.

I will restore an image and try the regedit without uninstalling WMC.
