Sorry to dissapoint you guys, I have an extremely modern high end desktop rig, which contains THREE blu ray writer drives. Nothing like browsing my disc collection copying three at a time of them to my pc, or burning three dvd audio discs for my car all at once.Take a look at MYCE website forums, it is full of optical media enthusiasts even today
Well, sorry in inform you, but it's not a disappointment to us that you are holding onto and using OLD tech in a modern system. In fact, you are an example of what we were shaking our heads about. I think it's hilarious. Especially that you still have a dvd player in your car!!! Lol. I can do anything you're doing, ten times faster and more conveniently on my system, using blazingly fast ssd's and if needed usb's. I have 8.5TB's of storage in my system, and most of it is ssd's. USB drives now days are much faster than dvd's, hold more information and are easier to carry and use. I have three usb connectors in my car, and can connect a usb the size of my thumbnail, which holds way more music than any one of your dvd's. And I carry it around on my keyring. There is just no logical reason to use dvd's in this day and age, where performance is involved. Remember how many people hung onto Window XP well after much better OS's were being mainstreamed. You guys are like them...
Now that being said, if you use dvd's because you just prefer to use them, or like to spread them out and look at all the shiney mirrors, well that's your prerogative. And you have a right to it. But your buddy Zardoc should make no mistake, you guys are the dvd nerds. The "MAINSTREAM" majority of the world, and the most technologically advanced in the world are using SSD's and USB's.

Absolutely! Funny you bring that up, as these guys are probably looking at those very "lp record guys" the same way we are looking at the dvd guys now...

I didn't say I use optical media as my main storage, in fact it is there to be used when needed, or to boot my tech oriented rig from linux cd , or macrium rescue media, I use the dvds only sometimes. Yet it does not mean this tech is not valid, it has it's place in the world, many people are fascinated by it, (128gb blu ray recordable media anyone?), Just take a look at amazon and the blu ray burner section, or the blank media section in ebay.
BTW, I also have multi TB of storage, including nvme drives with 3500 MBPS speeds, you dont need to teach me about modern technology and performance. It is nothing to laugh about.

Don't you mean, it "had" its place in the world. Listen, just because things are for sale, doesn't mean they are useful. I can go onto Amazon, Ebay or any other sales site, and show you example after example of useless crap being bought and sold. So you can't defend old tech, by the mere fact that it's still being bought. Make no mistake, the tech industry moves at lightning speeds. And it has been the case for more than a decade now, as soon as a newer tech comes out, and is tested to work well, the old tech is no longer valid. Period. Will there still be a minority who continue to use the old tech? Sure. And as I previously said, it's your prerogative. As for the fascination argument, I've seen people who are fascinated by blinking lights. So...
By the way, I'm just yanking your chain a bit, as debates like this on here are what make this forum interesting to me. So don't take it personally. I'm just entertaining myself until the Sweet 16 basketball games start up. But here's a serious question for you. If you have NVMe m.2 drives on your rig, why oh why would you ever have a use for a dvd writer, and even more bizarrely three of them??? Lastly, you didn't mention usb drives, which would do anything you do on dvd, much better and more conveniently. What about that?

Because it does not interfere with anything, sitting there idly by. Not in terms of space in the computer, nor power usage, nothing, the 5.25 cage is just there.I even helped myself and bought a usb floppy drive, just in case I ever need to activate an old dos game or whatever, It also just sits in the closet. I have a serious question also, that proves that each has it's own tastes, why on earth would you be interested in 11 people running with a ball from side to side?

I don't know where you got the number 11, as even if you don't know basketball, you should know that an odd number means you can't have even teams. But, you only have to look at the hundreds of millions of people who tune into see it, to answer that question. However, my reasoning is the same as I mentioned earlier. I like competition. I like "five" guys testing their will, stamina, speed, strength and smarts against another "five". And I can defend it further by saying most of the world loves to watch world class athletes compete against each other. It's why we have the World Cup, the International Games and the Olympics. It's a much easier answer than defending using old tech.
As for your answer that it doesn't use up space or resources in the computer, I would argue that yes it does. Dvd drives are big and bulky, which is why they were replaced with ssd's and usb's. They do use power and take up space. Again, I'm not arguing that you shouldn't use them. I think you should use whatever you like to use. I am only arguing that they are superfluous old tech, and not as efficient, as powerful nor as fast as newer tech.
