Tutorials are in fact tips and tricks to either modify or tweak a setting in Windows. One the most well know by design non fix that can be tweaked to remove from event viewer is the DCOM issues.

I don't think there is anyone who wouldn't appreciate to have a tutorial on how to fix event viewer issues related to that.

Sure, I can find a fix by trying a search, but will I find the right solution ? Tutorials are monitored. If you see a fix there then it's the right one.

This is by far the best forum for solutions to Windows issues.

For Insider builds there could be an insider tweak section, but that would be worthless because the aim of insider builds is to fix problems. (Yeah, I said the aim)

I'm really talking about those pesky by design problems that MS will not fix.

    Hi Galileo,

I'm sorry, I hadn't seen your post. All the reason why a section for known bugs and temporary or permanent fixes would really help. You could search for the specific bug or add to the page.
No problem...... And, BTW, I agree with the concept of a known bugs and fix-its category...with identifiers for the builds/versions for which said bugs or fixes are applicable...Good - and useful - idea...

It's definitely not a backup but I have experienced glitches that the restore function can put right. But have to admit it is a LONG time since I have used it so don't get too het up over it being off.
My point was it turned it ON after the upgrade when I had set it to OFF - LOL.

How difficult can it be to use the SAME setting during an upgrade?

I started using the slow build again and so far no issues to report. Instillation was fast and easy. I like the new light theme.

I was having problems installing this update until I uninstalled The Crew 2 and Conan Exiles, the only two games I have installed that use the BattlEye anti-cheat software. It may also have helped that uninstalling Conan Exiles freed 68 GB from my C boot SSD as well. Whatever, I was able to install the upgrade without any further issue and post-install everything seems to running exactly as before (this was an in-place upgrade from Build 17763.379).

The only minor bug I've come across is that the taskbar was refusing to display the Microsoft Store icon despite the fact that on right-clicking on the app in Start > Programs it was showing as pinned to both the Start menu and the taskbar. Unpinning then pinning again did not fix the issue.

This morning I noticed that the Store was finally showing but that the Settings icon, which I've had pinned since v1803 had disappeared. Yet this is showing as pinned to the taskbar and unpinning and repinning it does not fix the issue.

My guess is that Windows 10 v1903 only allows 8 app icons to be displayed on the taskbar: in my case I have the Start menu plus Search bar followed by Cortana, Task View, Microsoft Store (yesterday this was the Settings icon), Xbox, Groove, Photos, Film & TV and Mail app icons.

Sure, it's not a big deal as Settings can be accessed from the Start Menu or from the Search bar by typing settings but it's nevertheless mildly annoying to not be able to set up my icons exactly as I want them due to a silly bug.

    Hi there
since these are presumbably test builds for Windows wouldn't it be better to separate these instead of into "fast / Slow / skip ahead" rings but Gamers, Tweakers/ developers and Enterprise/Business rings -- Windows can then gear the developments for the appropriate users.

Personally If I can have reliable fast Windows that works 100% for business, Network 100% reliable, Office functionality 100% reliable, security fine, and VPN / VM connections then that's all I want -- others who want to play Fortnite etc want the ultimate in graphics / cpu etc so their games work properly -- they probably couldn't give two hoots as to whether some business collaboration software doesn't work properly , while developers and "tweakers" want probably a version of Windows with all sorts of development hooks in it - that's where WSL and Sandbox should go. If you want a "mix" then you can always fire up any of these.

Windows is probably so massive now that supplying the needs of all these different types of users necessitates compromises if it all has to be on a single box -- personally I can't see the problem of splitting windows down --easier for Ms I should think and better for the users too - not to say that say an improvement in gaming might break something on a "standard" box so even better reason for splitting editions.

Having said all that though I find this build the most reliable (for what I use it for) so far and it actually works better than the standard current build so I'll push this one to the limit --I'm sure I can break something soon enough. !!!

    Cheers

I think that's the first time I've heard of that happening - congratulations!

Just noticed upgrading to 1903 reinstated system restore which I always turn OFF!

Yet others, it turns it off.

Always seems to flip-flop it from whatever state you last used - lol.
Mine didn't change, but like I mentioned, I upgraded and I use Acronis
