You do not need to sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account to join Insider program, to get Insider builds. You sign in to Windows with a local account, but if you check Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program, it shows you your Insider account.

Windows sign-in account and Insider account have nothing to do with each other. They can of course be the same, but even if your Windows sign-in account is an MS account, you can use another MS account for Insider program.

Taking longer time installing than the last skip ahead flight.

My updates takes just a few minutes (about 8 or 9 minutes start to finish) once it tells me to restart. With a 1TB Samsung EVO NVME drive, a 100 MB/sec pipe, and a 8/16 core Intel Coffee Lake running at 4.7Ghz, I should hope so, heh. I just changed it to automatically restart by itself once it is ready as I rarely notice the little notification icon and I leave my machine running 24/7 for a Plex server. It is nice to come back to a fully running update.

Read the ZDnet article that Shawn posted on the 18341 thread. 20H1 may be treading water for quite some time.

Here's the real reason Microsoft is already testing publicly next spring's Windows 10 release | ZDNet

Putting status for Onedrive and WU on the top of Settings suits me. Don't add anything else. Downloading this new build to a VM while I search for Fedora 30 Branched and check on VMware forums is a way of passing time in the wee hours.

    Hi there @martyfelker

I can't even INSTALL VMWare on this release !!!. Did a clean install of this release on a spare (decent) laptop and then tried to run the vmware installer -- just did nothing -- I left it for around 15 mins as I know with some of these builds if you leave default settings some applications take a long time to start (not 15 mins of course !!!).

    Cheers

Any Virtual OS excluded, this 18845 is typically boring for a 'home' user that does not use any VMs. It works. It even works with iTunes loaded from the Store App that revived an old iPad 2 to factory settings without PIN or password.

So far, everything just works for me, although I haven't done much messing around yet.
