    I'm not assuming, I know. Why else would Windows contain about 200k files? Just to have all files do the same thing?

    Besides, this is exactly what MS promotes themselves.
    It's not the number of file it's how they interact that can give problems.

    Yes! Software design is like building an engine. All parts must fit and work according to specifications or the engine won't run at all or run very poorly.

    Either way, the biggest issue with Windows and it's bugs is its legacy codebase and backwards compatibility. If Windows 10 development would have truly started from scratch I'm quite confident Windows would be working much better than it does right now.

    I wonder when Microsoft will do a full overhaul of the scheduler so that CPUs like the Thread Ripper can stretch its legs properly. TR has no issues in Linux but at 32-cores full load, Windows can't schedule properly.

    I don't know, maybe they've fixed it already...?

    That's for sure but would also take years to build up the base of SW available now.

    I'm grateful to the MS engineers for steadfastly sticking to allow legacy machines to still run Windows. Unlike other OSs. Otherwise my grandfather laptop would be dead. As it is it's on Skippy and running as fast as it could be. So kudos to Microsoft.New Windows 10 Insider Preview Skip Ahead Build 18836 (20H1) -Feb. 14-spoeccyt.png

    Hi there

    @slicendice

    actually not wholly true BTW

    Linux works brilliantly in spite of the fact there's about 10 zillion and one different distros. !! It could be due to the fact that having proprietary code these days inhibits real progress. When you look at companies like Red Hat which supports Fedora and Centos by essentially supplying its source code free of charge and still make "Lots a Money" one needs to ask should Ms change its business model and embrace more open source development.

    Cheers

    No matter how much people want, Windows will never ship without an internet browser. And IE isn't going away anytime soon.
    Thanks, oilernut. I hope you are correct.
