Sorry for being so dense, but is this update only for Insider Program machines, or for everyone? If you are not an Insider, it is not included in Windows Update.

Has anyone else noticed extra attempts to (re)install KB4487044 after it was installed successfully?

    Attachment 225160

And the (5) at the end of the first Quality Update listing: does that indicate repeats of the same failed reattempt? It was a (3) this morning, and I have noticed an extra 300-400GB of data consumed today over the usual...

Also did a clean install of 1809 on my HP ProBook, using USB installation media, and local copies of Cumulative updates like
KB4487044, and upon connecting to internet service, Windows Update is trying to reinstall
KB4487044, even though Update History shows it to have been successfully installed.

And why the two different text descriptors for the same KB? Error code 0x80240034 is cited by MS Technet as meaning "failed to download", but why should WU still be trying to download it?

I have not noticed that, but if your Winver shows the current version: 17763.16, that means the update has already been installed successfully and doesn't need to be reinstalled. With that in mind, I would reset Windows update database:

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

just in case it is corrupt. Troubleshoot Windows updates after that and run:

    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /restorehealth

Finally check for Updates and see what gives.

    Hi folks
This seems to be new on this release

If you download a (legit) .exe file to install then the store app appears although you can also click install anyway without using the store. Not sure if it's my system though as I've done so much tinkering recently a clean install might be in order.

    cheers
