All the intricacies, constant change of rules, let alone the inevitable bugs, made me stay away from the insider builds. Look for example this article regarding 20H1 ( I said it right 20H1, this is not a typo)

    Windows 10 20H1 Builds Changelog

and you will have a good idea of what I am talking about. Maybe, in the foreseeable future, when I have some spare time, I will give it a try on my secondary machine and used your advice about installing via UUPDUMP. About backups, I always backup basically every day, taking into account the way my backup plan is scheduled. MR + EaseUs ToDo are scheduled to backup every other day on 2 x 8 TB WD+ a 1TB Seagate portable drive for reserve copies made during the week-end or at any time I feel like it, especially after a big change, mainly an upgrade.
Nothing really new here. This has been going on for a couple of years at least. Nothing at all to to with 1809 cumulatives. This is simply the way Insider program works. Those who are or have been in the program are well aware of what they signed up for. Side note..... if there were no bugs, it would not be alpha/beta, it would be public, with it's own set of public bugs.

Totally agree with your take on the matter. What I meant by "inevitable bugs", even though not expressed clearly, is that you either have to use the insider builds on a dedicated Machine or VM and not your production one. Of course, one knows beforehand that the purpose of these insider builds is to test bugs. The discussion was about not being able to leave one build and go back or advance to another one, as expressed by other members on this forum. MS makes it very difficult to do that. Cheers!

I use the same machine, but slip in a dedicated SSD for production and one for insider via a front panel removable tray. I have been using those $20 120GB SSD's for insider and so far so good.

It's probably nothing to do with this particular install (more a general problem about failed installs), but this install did mess up Windows on my machine.

Earlier on in this thread I reported that the install had not worked correctly (post #82):
    Cumulative Update KB4487044 Windows 10 v1809 Build 17763.316 - Feb. 12 Windows Update - Page 9 - Windows 10 Forums

I later noticed that not only had the sound stopped working, but that Windows Update had stopped working.

I had to do a complete re-install of Windows from a USB created by the Media Creation Tool (MediaCreationTool1809.exe). After that and running Windows Update I am now up to KB4487044.

During the 1809 debacle, I mistakenly signed up for Insider on my production partition, but rolled back and signed out of Insider. Complete success getting out of Insider.

Very good to know, but how did you get that SSD for just 20.00$ even though it is just 120GB?. I have always known that SSDs are very expensive even at the lowest capacity (120 or 250GB). In any case, I don't think that I will have to through those hoops just to test the insider program; I can always use my old secondary machine (more than 12 years old) for that .

What I meant, if you look back at some other posts, and in the article I have referenced to in posts # 139 or 140, a user can be in the skip ahead edition and want to go back to the fast ring one, it seems that this not possible.

At the present time, Newegg and Walmart have them for $20-29. I watch for the sales and they become even lower. WM has a 120GB Kingston for $19.99 and a 240Gb for $29.99. They also offer a "protection plan" 3 yr, $3.00 I am using one of them now (knock knock) no issues.

Thanks for the info. If I ever think of having a SSD, I will probably check first Walmart in my neck of the wood since I live in Canada. It is a fact that SSDs' prices have lowered compared to what they used to be when they first appeared on the market.

Is anyone having problems with Snip & Sketch?

I've tried three times to use it this morning, but so far, every time it gets to the point of me doing the snip, it closes before I can do anything. It never dims . . . I'm sure I did this a couple days ago, and it worked fine.

    I'm on 1809 version 17763.316.

Edit: I shut down, then booted into my Insider partition, shut that down and rebooted to my Production partition.

I tried again to use S & S with a 10 second delay, but it still won't work.

However, if I try a "Snip Now", it works just fine.

So, at this point, I guess I'm going to file Feedback.

BTW, S & S works just fine with a 10 second delay in the new Skip Ahead Build.

Yes $20 for a 120gb SSD, some are even less ? Have not thought about doing just what you do. All the drives on my system are removable (some hot plug-able) so its really issue. May have to get some extra trays.

    Thanks for the reminder.
