It creates a .url file (just tried it to make sure).
Thanks for that. I will have a play with it.

There are third party bookmark sync apps that are multi browser compatible if bookmarks are important to you.
I did investigate many years ago but never used them in anger.

So for those wedded to IE you could keep using it but transition slowly whilst keeping your IE bookmarks actively synced with whatever new browser(s) you are trying out as a potential long term replacement.

Thanks but it is not a syncing concern. It is a .url file concern.

If Favorites/Bookmarks can be saved as fully independent .url files then I can do whatever I want with them.

    ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

The closest I can get at the moment is with Firefox.

I can drag its address bar icon down onto a [Favorites folder] Taskbar toolbar & let it go when hovering over the >> symbol. That puts the current FF address as a .url file in the top level of my Favorites folder [i.e the same result as I currently get in IE when I add a Favorite].

I can then, as with IE, move the url to a Favorites subfolder for ready access to it or file it away in my Documents folders along with other notes on the same subject. So, just as examples,
    - my link to TenForums is kept in my favorites folders
    - my link to Backup and Restore Task Manager Settings - TenForumsTutorial is filed away in my Win10/TaskMgr folder. This folder contains everything I thought worth saving about Task mgr including urls, pdf printouts, screenshots, text notes, subfolders with similar files about specialist aspects of it such as start minimized.
The key to this is always having the url as an independent file.

I routinely 'sync' my Favorites and my Documents folders to the other computers on my network [using a RoboCopy batch file called from TS]. Once again, the key to this is always having the url as an independent file.

    Hey Guys,..

Not an insider here, but would like to ask a question. I never use Internet explorer, nor windows EDGE, but after reading everything that is going on with IE 11, or not going on, My question is this,...

Can I safely uncheck Internet Explorer 11, From Windows features, without having any detrimental effects, with the operation on my PC ?

    Currently on 1809 Build 17763.292

    Thanks !!

Good question. Try it and let us know

Seriously though. Give it a try and see what happens. I think I'll do the same. Will report back in this thread after a bit.

Edit: Uninstalled IE11 and so far I don't see any difference. I'm sure I'll run into some but nothing yet.

The only "negative" I've been able to find says that when you remove IE11, Edge become the default browser and IE11 Favorites and settings are deleted. Since IE11 was not my default browser to start with, that didn't happen, and the Favorites folder is still there under my account name.

Thanks ! So far no issues unchecking IE 11 from Windows features. If something comes up, I will revisit this thread.

    Thanks again !

You don't even have to "uncheck" IE11. Just leave it alone. It won't start unless you initiate it.

No problems since removing IE11 so far.

I have IE11 set as my "default" browser and keep a window or two open all the time. Chrome is my "daily driver" for surfing and spamming while I use F-Fox for streaming Vids. Opera and TOR are only used to goto places I don't want my family to accidentally click on, too slow for other uses.
    .
So Why most people would ask is IE set as Default ? Simply, the only thing reliable about my ATT Internet is the fact it's extremely unreliable. It's not a question of If it'll crash, but When it'll crash. So when it disconnects from the Internet IE will open up over the others to the default Modem IP and show My Network Status. Watch the modem lights until I see I'm reconnected, then check the SNR to see if it's high enough to go back to doing what I was doing with the other browsers or reboot the modem until the connection is usable.
