I disabled Windows Insider Service and all non-MS apps start lightning fast. However in settings it shows a problem with Windows Insider needing to be fixed. Turning the service back on fixes the problem. Is it necessary to have it fixed if I don't use WU? All of my updates are done via UUP.

Odd. Did night light break in 18317, or earlier? I don't recall having a problem in 18312....
I couldn't remember, so I looked it up: 18305 broke Night Light and similar 3rd-party software like flux.

18323 fixed Night Light, though it's still not working consistently for some people, without their periodically rebooting to fix it (this is above and beyond the weird pink problem that I mentioned, also fixed by a reboot, which is probably not a coincidence).

18323 still left 3rd-party programs of this ilk broken, but some, like flux, continually issue betas to workaround it not working at all.

Maybe it did and I didn't notice it then lol. Wouldn't be the first time that something slipped my notice.

It's working now, for me, so....eh.

If having the service enabled doesn't affect you, leave it enabled. But if you rely on non-M$ apps, as I do, then you might be better off either

    1. Turning the service off, or
    2. Reverting to a previous build (not gonna happen for me - I'm here to test....)

I do updates manually anyway so I disabled service but only small improvements with Win32 applications, they are 99% of all SW on my computers.

As a test, put it back to Fast. Let it reboot and get weird. Leave on Fast, but when you shutdown, hold the shift key when clicking Shutdown. Let it sit 15 seconds or so. Power back up and see if it's normal, with the Fast enabled. Holding the Shift while Shutting Down bypasses the hiberfil.sys writing, as if it were not enabled.
That worked fine. Thank You. Suspect I need to disable allow to Hibernate.

    Hi there

    @CountMike -- help please as you are good with this stuff -- I've never had passwordless logon - certainly not as default and it won't force a password even if I set user must use a password to use this computer;

Running on build 18323.19h1 release 190119-1759 W10 Pro X-64 on a real machine.

even though I've clicked "This user must use a password to use this computer" I never get prompted for a logon password.

This hoses up network connections from other computers as a password prompt comes up but computer doesn't accept it.

This is BONKERS if it's a defect - means if you lock your computer and walk away anybody can just hit enter and gets logged on.

    Fixed

--- did Change password and ignored current password -- entered a new one twice and it's working again -- so somehow update wiped password or changed some hidden setting in system --I'd have thought that default security should be on unless one specifically WANTS to change it. Network connections now working again too.

    Cheers

My neighborhood has locked mailboxes with the mailman carrying the master key.. There are two locked boxes for packages. The mailman puts the package key in your box. It is common in my town and has been over 30 years.
    Makes perfect sense to me!

I'm still having random GSOD's and audio issues galore!
I haven't had a single GSOD or BSOD in a very long time. So I'm not sure the build is the problem, it must be something on some of you guys systems which is conflicting. Hope this helps.

    Hi folks

Two defects fixed - one still not fixed

Fixed ---> Themes from store install correctly
Fixed --> IE11 menu bar available (although you have to unclick all the options on the settings (right mouse click), re-boot and then add the options back again.

Not fixed--> Language panel still hangs
