Still takes hours and hours to upgrade via an elderly machine but gets there in the end. So I do agree. Can't remember when I last did a clean install on skippy.

Any word about USB keyboards & mice going dead after the logo appears at boot?

Happened to me when 18312 installed over 18309. It wouldn't let me roll back so I had to do a clean install with the 18290 ISO. 18317 installed but same problem with no kbd/mou. At least this time it let me uninstall/rollback. Have submitted bug reports but no idea if it's any kind of priority.

WSL does work now (improvement) and with a bit of messing around (not supported officially) you can actually get some Linux GUI programs to work-- at least using Ubuntu -- install kubuntu desktop (kde) and then some kde programs will install --it's a bit tricky but it does "sort of work" !!!

I've been running GUI applications flawlessly in all WSL distro (I now found there is even an ArchWSL - which I haven't yet tried.

    1. Download Xming from Sourceforge.
    2. Optionally (I always do this) run Xming in the Startup group by using Run --> shell:startup and moving or copying the Xming icon from the Desktop to the Startup Folder
    3. Enable the WSL feature and reboot
    4. Download (say) Ubuntu 18.04 from the Store
    5. Install Ubuntu from the store
    a) Enter the UID and PASSWD of your choice
    b) My way I first run 'sudo passwd root' and signin as root. Then I run 'nano /etc/sudoers' and add the line
UID ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL at the end of the file.
    c) My way again - run from the user prompt 'sudo apt install aptitude' && sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude -y dist-upgrade && sudo aptitude -y install synaptic && sudo DISPLAY=:0 synaptic' Then use synaptic to install any Ubuntu GUI you wish. For example firefox. The run DISPLAY:0 firefox and you have firefox on your desktop. You can do the equivalent for other distros (e.g. for SUSE use zypper instead of aptitude). This has never once failed me. Enjoy. Cheers.

Why do you need to run Firefox in such a way when theres a native windows version?

    Hi there
on Linux there's a whole slew of decent programs that need a GUI -- nothing wrong in testing say something like Firefox -- I know you can run it on Windows --but surely that's the whole point of testing -- see if a known application behaves the same regardless of the underlying OS.

The fact people are asking these questions just seems to re-emphasize what I've thought for years -- the people today while having much more exposure to computers - haven't a basic clue on any sort of QA or proper testing scripts / scenarios. I know it's not the most glamorous parts of I.T but poor QA causes so many problems in the long run.

Anyway @martyfelker and others -- good luck for testing -- although I did do this type of stuff when WSL first came out. Actually some sentences in your post look a bit suspiciously like what I said quite a while ago when explaining how to load a KDE applications via KUBUNTU on to wsl.

Still enjoy and it is a bit of fun especially in these winter days - and it avoids being dragged to the shops !!!

    Cheers

I just kicked off a WU on my Win 10 Pro X64 Oracle VM. I'm currently at 18312.1001 (missed all last week)

This is what the WU window looks like. What is this 1903 KB?

The only hits I get on it with a Google search are in foreign languages?

It's what the April 2019 upgrade will be called; i.e. October 2018 is version 1809 and the April 2019 will be 1903. Don't recall where I saw that, but I did see it.

Why was it showing as an update for me? After 18317.1000 completed 1903 is gone and there is no record of it in Update history.
