Hi there
I think this is what a lot of us were apprehensive about some while back but got rubbished at the time -- Windows likely to become a subscription service.

Could be OK for Some corporates -- hardly likely to see people like the CIA taking it up though -- is it perhaps the beginning of the end for Windows as a Home desktop OS.

Remember also there are an ever increasing amount of knowlegeable retirees around as well as semi retirees who continue to use and like to use home computers and don't need any of the "Microsoft always connected Corporate future vision". I'm not sure if typical pre-teens and some young people need or want "corporate style" desktops either.

I agree for some organisations this makes a lot of sense but if this is the future main thrust of Microsoft then home users could do far worse than getting to grips with Linux !!!! and running their legacy windows (non cloud versions) as Virtual Machines. !!

Also what happens with these cloud thingey's - you've got an urgent contract to get signed sealed and delivered by tomorrow early AM and half way through your final draft the evening before your Internet connection fails - could be ISP problems, Cloud server problems, Legal problems, Hacking problems etc etc. Mobile phone connections won't necessarily help you out here especially if you create a local hotspot from your mobile so at least you can still get Internet hoping that you can ate you'll still get full access to all your corporate cloud stuff -- no way -- at least if the security people were any good at their jobs !!!.

Cheers
