I still use Rufus - it just works for everything I throw at it. Just download the latest version - works fine for burning Windows iso's.
So I must be missing something. As I already downloaded and used version 3.4 (latest). Then go into bios and set the usb drive to be my boot drive. But when I save and reboot the system, it acts like it's going to load the windows installation, but instead goes to a blue screen for keyboard version. I choose US and then it goes to a screen asking Go to Windows or Use another drive. When I choose "Use another drive" USB, it just reboots into the same blue screen again, instead of loading the Windows installation screen. I've never seen this before. Rufus makes a UEFI drive, I chose UEFI USB, but somehow it still has some problem. I also changed the setting to allow UEFI storage disks. But no dice! Lol. I used to always dual boot the first years of Win10, and so was up on all this. But not doing it for so long, I feel like a noob!

    Evenin' Smactilactus,

Rufus has changed a bit since I last used it (I had a heckuva time figuring it out), so here are the new instructions:

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10 | Tutorials

Choose Option 2 (Rufus) and follow the yellow brick road . . . Note that there are two ways to use Rufus; whether you have a Legacy system or a UEFI system.

Hi Wynona, good evening to you as well. Thanks as always for your reply. So I went to the link and checked all steps. I did everything exactly as it asks, with the subtle exception of using Fat32(large) instead of NTFS. So just to rule it out, I tried making a Rufus USB using the NTFS file sys. I know Fat32 is commonly used, but that was the only thing I could find that isn't set the same. So I'll give it another whirl and let ya know how it goes.
It's funny. I've done this what seems like hundreds of times, and never had a problem. But go several years of not doing it, and the whole thing becomes an adventure. Lol.

Something rings a bell with your whole problem. That's something that came up a long time ago. If I remember right, after you get the pick a keyboard thing, you go to the command line option (don't recall exactly how, it's there), run the setup.exe from the thumb. Away it goes!

I burned a USB from the file i posted, and upon booting it saw the exact same thing you did, like it was rescue media or something. I wish I could say that I had any idea of what is going on, but I don't. Never have seen this before. Made the iso using UUPtoISO like I have dozens of times before. I'll meditate on it for a while (sleep on it but for now, I have to admit I'm stymied...

Well, as crazy as this sounds, I'm sooooooo glad this happened to you as well. I was starting to feel a bit self-conscious about it! Lol. I've been building and setting up computers for many, many years. But this started making me question myself. I turned off fastboot and made sure secure boot was on UEFI system. So I am very relieved to find its the iso.

Thanks f14tomcat. I will try a different iso, and if it still has problems, I'll give this a try.

Might be that Repair option at the far left corner on the bottom. In there you can wiggle to a command prompt. Best I can remember without doing it. I think it will see the thumb as drive 'X'. so, you'll need to do a CD\ X.

This works perfectly with this iso! Boot the USB stick, select your keyboard, and on the next screen select 'Troubleshooting', and you'll see an option for command prompt. You'll need to 'guess' the drive letter of your USB stick - mine was F:, but just keep trying until you see the directory with setup.exe in it. Type 'setup.exe', and you're off to the races!

    Many thanks f14tomcat!

No need to guess, use DISKPART.

First, type following command to launch Windows' built-in partitioning tool:

    diskpart

    List all available volumes:

    list vol

Check the current drive letter for your USB drive, and exit DISKPART:

    exit

Nice tip. My drive letters are always shifting around - I do a lot of experimentation. I just went D:, E:, F: and there she was! Your way is a lot more to the point ;-)

Hope you're feeling better - Dr. sgage prescribes a moderate dose of malt derived liquid.
