No, I haven't given completely up on your suggestion. What I might do, is just use one of my other drives to setup another sys disk for a dual boot system, and do a clean install of 18312 on that disk. Do you have an iso of this build?
Also, yeah, the first thing I checked was connections and cables. Then temperatures. But you are right. sometimes problems do linger between builds if we are only upgrading. So it will be interesting to see how this new clean install works out. Thanks as always for helping me search for a solution. Always appreciated.
No, sorry, Smactilactus. I think I saw where Marty may have one, though.

Edit: Good deal @sgage. This is exactly why TF is such a great place.

Not only do we help each other out, we learn/remember something new/old almost every day. I hadn't thought about using a different hard drive, although I've done it myself on occasion.

Which Windows edition? Which bit version? Which language version?
Can't vouch for the edition/version, but I can pretty much peg the language . . . since both of 'em are in the US of A.

Believe me, Wynona, when it comes to things Windows, this forum is my 'group mind'. One gets so much knowledge here, and one tries to give back as much as possible.

My point was, although you do not like it, that TenForums is a global site. Although we all write here in English, and assume everyone is using a 64 bit W10 PRO in English, that's not the case with some (most?) of us.

For instance, I although using English Windows, I would not like to have it in colonial English, so called EN-US. I want my Windows to be in real English, so called EN-GB.

Posting a link like "Here's W10 ISO for you" does tell nothing to me. Is it in my preferred language, is it my preferred edition, is it my preferred bit version?

    That was my point.

Anyway, as anyone can make the ISO by themselves, I find the links to ISO files made by someone else quite useless.

Good grief, Kari, I was being silly.

What I have made available for download from my OneDrive is whatever UUPtoISO made from my WU upgrade to the latest build - presumably US English. As far as links to ISO's being useless, someone asked for one, and I obliged. You seem a bit cranky tonight, my friend.

I think Kari was talking about using UUP Dump Downloader to get any of the insider builds you want, directly rather than download one that someone else built. At least that's what I got out of his post even though he didn't use those words.

The last one I downloaded was: 18312.1001.190104-1630.RS_PRERELEASE_CLIENTCORE_OEMRET_x64FRE_EN-US.ISO
which name wise is identical to the one sgage made available.

    Kado,

You are correct, SMB 1.0 for the legacy devices as I could not see my NAS without it either.

I wonder if newer NAS devices are SMB 2/3 compliant?
Although my NAS is a WD My Cloud 8tb and is only 2 years old !
    Hi there
If you run newer distros of Linux on your NAS and at least version 4.7 of SAMBA you can enable "Max protocol = SMB3" in the SAMBA config file -- whether Windows will see the server is a mute point though.

This is in fact a Software rather than a hardware issue but how this works with Windows !!!! -- I've tested enabling SMB3 on NAS and can't see the thing on Windows 10 (as well as earlier Windows versions). So Leaving as SMB1.

Note Amazon Fire TV boxes don't have a problem with SMB3 on Windows but can't see NAS so leave as SMB1 / NT1 on your NAS if you stream through an Amazon fire TV box say via KODI using multimedia files from your NAS.

BTW for latest versions of Windows 10 set in the Linux SAMBA config file now "MAX PROTOCOL = NT1" rather than SMB1 -- somewhere along the line this changed. Leave Windows though with SMB1 enabled.

    Cheers
