Applies to: Windows 10 version 1803

    • [UPDATED 1/11] Addresses an issue that affects PowerShell remoting loop back using non-administrator accounts. For more details, see Windows Security change affecting PowerShell.
    • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, the Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Virtualization, Windows Linux, Windows MSXML, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine .

For more information about the resolved security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide.

    Known issues in this update

    Symptom Workaround
After you install the August Preview of Quality Rollup or September 11, 2018 .NET Framework update, instantiation of SqlConnection can throw an exception. For more information about this issue, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

4470809 SqlConnection instantiation exception on .NET 4.6 and later after August-September 2018 .NET Framework updates.
Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
After installing this update, some users cannot pin a web link on the Start menu or the taskbar. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
After installing KB4467682, the cluster service may fail to start with the error “2245 (NERR_PasswordTooShort)” if the Group Policy “Minimum Password Length” is configured with greater than 14 characters. Set the domain default "Minimum Password Length" policy to less than or equal to 14 characters.

Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
After installing this update, third-party applications may have difficulty authenticating hotspots. Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimates a solution will be available mid-January.
[ADDED 1/11] Applications that use a Microsoft Jet database with the Microsoft Access 97 file format may fail to open if the database has column names greater than 32 characters. The database will fail to open with the error, “Unrecognized Database Format”. Use one of the following options:

Option 1: Modify the database to ensure that all column names are less than or equal to 32 characters.

Option 2: Convert the database to the .accdb file format. To use the .accdb file format, you must change the Connection string after conversion.

The easiest way to convert is to use Microsoft Access 2010 or earlier.

    1. Use Microsoft Access to open a database that has an older file format.
    2. You will be asked if you would like to convert. Click Yes and save the database with the .accdb extension.

Option 3: Convert the database to a newer .mdb file format. This doesn’t require a change to the Connection string.

    1. Use Microsoft Access to open a database that has an older file format.
    2. You will be asked if you would like to convert. Click Yes and save the database with the .accdb file extension.
    3. Open the .accdb.
    4. From the File menu, click Save as and select Access 2002-2003 Database.

Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimates a solution will be available early February.

    How to get this update

    Before installing this update

Microsoft strongly recommends you install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU). SSUs improve the reliability of the update process to mitigate potential issues while installing the LCU and applying Microsoft security fixes. For more information, see Servicing stack updates.

If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU (KB4477137) will be offered to you automatically. To get the stand-alone package for the latest SSU, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog.

    Install this update

This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.

To get the stand-alone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Hi Brink, ~86% of users are still on this version of Win10, I think it should be pinned in the forum, not that the 1809 post is mixed with 1809 and 1803 posts.

    Hi folks
I'm updating an old version of Windows but any idea why it wants to update to 1803 BEFORE installing updates to 1709.

Seems sequence has gone totally Bonkers here.

If you read your screen from the bottom up it APPEARS that the 1709 updates have downloaded and installed (Awaiting restart) THEN the Feature update to 1803 started so actually it's the opposite of what you said....... I think!

But no idea what will happen when the 1803 update reaches "Awaiting Restart" stage and you actually perform the restart! You Might actually find that after the Restart it immediately offers you 1809 - I'm not sure why it didn't ignore 1803 anyway.

OOPS! I only studied the bottom one (I intentionally ignored the Office one). Sorry...... let us know what the Restart brings.

My Win10 1803 just updated to KB4480979. I don't see that particular # listed here. It also came with the usual Security For Flash update.
