    That's just the way some folks work . . . some don't like change, and IE does take ya back . . . way, way, way back!

    I quit using IE a long time ago when it wouldn't do what I wanted it to. Changed over to Firefox and never looked back.

    Hi there

    @Wynona
    agree but I suppose it's the same reason some people never change banks, ISP's where possible, energy suppliers, house/car insurance etc -- just inertia. The way to make people switch would be for Ms to say right as from xxxx IE11 is no longer supported.

    The reason it held on for so long was that some DRM audio / video content needed some really bizarre security system (Silverlight) -- those applications now have moved on totally -- for example SKY GO has its own application and doesn't need a browser any more.

    I would mention also that ie11 is incredibly slow compared to edge or other browsers, It is really outdated and responds sluggishly, I dont see how a heavy user would be comfortable using it.

    Hi there

    Network defect -- don't know why but sometimes the same computer is mapped twice in file explorer - network. ??

    BTW IMO speeds of browsers are such a boring topic -- there's all sorts of good reasons for using whatever browser you feel comfortable with but most of the browsers speed depends on things like load on site being visiited (if site is overloaded it can't transfer the data to the browser fast however inherently fast the browser might be), your own device load, isp load, network speed etc etc to say nothing of any particular software / scripts that the site might be running on your browser.

    Just choose the one you like but IMO the speed is so irrelevant it isn't an issue --how the interface feels to you the user and how secure it is are way way more important.

    The only time speed could possibly be an issue is if watching a lot of large video content e.g movies / video presentations -- the rendering engine might be a consideration there - but even in that case why would I say watch netflix on a computer using a browser --its got its own application !!.

    Internet Explorer is probably the only browser left that maintains full native integration with Windows and the Win32 platform.

    Why..., you can still change the Bookmarks icons within Windows on IE, for goodness sake...

    I'm afraid we'll never see that in any other browser from this day forward!

    Hi there
    @Edwin

    Firefox has excellent bookmarking capabilities, menus, favorite folder (new bookmark) etc etc.
    Can't say whether changing icons is worth the bother -- use Linux GUI's if you want to do that sort of thing easily.

    Hi there

    @Edwin

    I'm surprised Amazon hasn't (yet ??) launched a Windows browser (with free 1 month to Amazon Prime !!!!).

    Actually I usually browse on a Linux system - Windows I use for more mundane tasks like Office stuff, photoshop, accessing corporate vpn. 95% of what I do I don't need Windows any more but I like to keep in touch with whats currently happening in Windows. Even SKYPE works well on almost any Linux distro these days and networking generally works OOB -- with windows whether networking continues working properly from one release to the next is like playing the lottery -- probably more chance of winning on the lottery !!.

    Opera is a good browser on android devices BTW (has built in type of TOR system so doesn't publish IP address of user as well).

    Here's the lowdown I'm getting from Tech Support. In order to activate this build I have to either.

    1) Re-install Windows 8.1(or 8.0) and TRY to activate that with the key I bought from MSDN and then try to upgrade with an Insider ISO
    or
    2) Buy a copy of "genuine" Windows for $199 (or if I want Windows for Workstations $309) and TRY to activate with a new key.
    This is not going to happen.

    As most of you know there are hacks that will remove the Activation message and hacks to change, for example, the background using a program like Winaero Tweaker or even, as I now do, simply use a Chrome extention which makes my home page a Google Earth png.

    There should be a way to enter a valid key into the new BIOS. In the past I've escalated activation problems beyond the Indian man but I just don't want to do that. Can you help with this Shawn?? TIA

    Just clean install W10 and enter your W8/8.1 key -- it will activate (still !!). I've still got a few keys from my old technet subscriptions. You don't actually need to install W8 or whatever.

    The caveat is that the edition of W10 you want to install must be the same level as the W7/W8/W8.1 version you are "upgrading" from.

    I.e W7 pro/ultimate to W10 pro, Home editions to Home and language editions must be the same.

    If by any reason it doesn't activate this method does.

    1) Backup existing system (say with macrium),
    2) clean install your old W8 etc system -- don't bother with updates -- the base video driver will work.
    3) activate it
    4) now clean install your W10 system - don't bother with product key enter at install time.

    Cheers
