I removed IE using the 'Turn Windows Features On or Off' when i first installed Windows 10. I bet a lot of people did. Does this mean it still needs patching? Or does this update re-install IE and then patch it?

If you have removed IE thru Programs and Features, the patch will not be offered to you. There's nothing to patch. This has been the case of another user who was looking for the update. IE was not enable/installed, no patch update found thru WU.

It was offered to me. (Using WUMT) Of course, i used 'Hide' instead of 'Install' I do Block Telemetry though so Windows probably has no clue what i do or don't have installed at this point.

ok...that's a twist on normal ops. update mini-tool may approach it differently. Not sure how it goes about determination vs WU.

I can get WUMT to offer me Silverlight, of all things!

It appears to patch IE regardless. After Windows Update installed the update, I turned IE 11 back on and discovered that it was patched.

Well that seems to prove that 'removing' IE using the aforementioned method only really removes links to it. It's still there, lurking deep within the OS like some deep sea monster!

Guess i should do the update then. It's a Zero Day exploit apparently which explains why it was pushed out. Nice to see it's still living up to it's nickname.

This update changed my system's sound settings.

It changed the output from my mobo stereo output to my (inop) monitor speakers.

    Why would it do that???

    Glad I figured it out...

All this did was break my start menu, making it take a second or longer to open.

Wait...what? We can do this to permanently disable IE and prevent it from launching ever again? Is there any downside to doing this?
