Seems the 18305.1003 update completely killed Windows Sandbox. It worked great for me on .1000 but is totally kaputt on .1003.

"Windows Sandbox does not support installers which require reboot."...……………..so its pretty useless !
Still have to use the Try&Decide from Acronis , which allows sandbox after reboot …...

No, it's far from useless, but it's useless for your usage scenario. I can think of many scenarios where a simple Sandbox is perfect. Just pop it open, copy over some files and test. When tested, just close the thing and it cleans itself up.

Installers that require a reboot, changes the system somehow and should in most cases be avoided anyways for reliable Windows operation. A VM would be much more suited for these kinds of tests.

I could see it being useful for me where I have to check some 300+ website a week for my job. Some hospitals close and someone buys the old domain for nefarious means (which has happened).

Not really. Most things don't require reboot - really only things like AV, drivers etc that want to change running kernel.

None of the programs I normally install (basically just Office and a couple of little ones to be honest) require reboot.

Or you could make a restore point, make a system image or a VM or any other backup. There are so many choices

Apparently Try&Decide was removed in 2015 though... Acronis True Image 2015: Try and Decide Is Not Supported | Knowledge Base

The point of sandbox is it is quick and easy. No planning or cleanup required. If what you want to test is more complicated then another solution may be better.

I do sort of agree with you though - it is like a solution looking for a problem. Testing the installation of a dodgy program seems a trivial use case.

Still the case after release to skippy. Restore to 1000 fixes it.

I guess whatever they fixed in security for IE broke Sandbox. Odd, indeed. Maybe they couldn't validate their own quasi-account used in Sandbox, and it died.

I have to say that I'm very impressed with how much Microsoft give you built-in to Windows 10. I'm looking forward to being able to use this feature myself - I'm not on the Insiders scheme, so I guess the rest of us will see it sometime in the New Year.
