    Hi folks

Network browsing seems seriously broken in this release

Seems to record 1 computer TWICE and skip the actual computer the command is running on

Got 1 laptop named DOG, 1 NAS (Linux) named HESTUR and 1 old desktop named HUNDUR

Running the Network browser on HUNDUR : Network shows 2X DOG and 1 HESTUR -- but not HUNDUR.

On the laptop I can only see DOG

On the NAS all computers seen correctly (SAMBA V4.8)

What on earth is up with Windows Networking - seems to be 100% variable --sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Both Windows machines running W10 PRO 1809 with 17763.194 updates.

I think I'm going to revert to all LINUX network with Windows only as VM's --that way at least I've a smidgen of a chance of making Windows work -- and if I really have to have a windows physical machine then just boot it from a WintoUSB external USB system.

    From the desktop

    Hi there

I can only show what happens on my systems -- I'm starting again with Clean install and see what happens --it's about time I did a clean install rather than updates from pre 1803 releases.

Beats going out for Xmas shopping -- I really hate this time of year in the shops -- thank goodness for Amazon etc !!!!!

If I hear any more "Xmas Music" in the streets I'll go Bonkers at least the bars here are all brilliant !!.

    Cheers

I've found the enabling SMB1 fixes all sorts of network issues.

    @jimbo45,

That is a big and unwelcome problem with Windows Updates, especially the CU ones. It's like after each one of them, you have to check all your settings. Lately, two days ago, I had this nerve -racking problem where my 2 PCs were not communicating with each other. Troubleshooting of the network on every aspect, always came up with the result:

"Your Computer Appears To Be Correctly Configured, But The Device Or Resource (DNS Server) Is Not Responding"

    Running of the following commands:
    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

didn't give any positive result. Same thing after checking Internet Protocol version 4 & 6 (TCP/IPv4; TCP/IPv6). Both were configured correctly. Finally the solution was really simple. It was the" Folder Sharing Option" that I had to turn on.

Since updating to build 17763.194 I see a weird progress bar when emptying the Recycle Bin.
    Anyone else seeing this?
It's not just emptying the recycle bin, it applies to file copying too. I actually like to see the full details. I have found that every Features Update to date has reset this to 'fewer details' meaning I had to turn 'more details' back on after each upgrade.

Yep sometimes the solution is the most simple one. CUs keeps changing settings they shouldn't. Very annoying to have to recheck every setting and sub-setting in multiple places every time something stops working. Sometimes the UI shows correct values but they are not active. A simple Disable -> Enable click makes the setting active again. Annoying when you can never be certain if you can trust what the settings UI tells you.

The CU is an Upgrade and replaces quite a bit of Windows. Using the MCT to get it results in a large file which is installable clean so that's the implication I get out of it. The Builds don't do as much changing, e.g. the old MahJong and Solitaire games I have installed keep working through the Builds but are always deleted with a CU as are the few customizations I do so keeping records of what I want to reinstall is important.

I will go out on a limb and say that Microsoft is doing well at confusing things by not getting terms coordinated such as changing Windows Explorer to File Explorer but not changing all instances within the coding. Traditionally a published number version is an Upgrade over the previous version and the Builds are similar to the old Service Packs. Using winver to check shows Version number and OS Build number.

Two things I have noticed with this release:
    1. Disables remote desktop.
    2. If you decrease display resolutions and have any programs minimized, it changes their size.

See: Remote Desktop not working after update
