Reverted to 18290 and waiting for M$ to launch a new build to see if the sound gets back.

The answer from M$ engineeer in Feedback hub:
"Thanks for your feedback that your system has lost audio because a High Definition Audio Controller device fails to start with Code 10 on build 18295 through 18304. This is fixed in builds 18305 and later."
    So... waiting for this build.

No, I haven’t had any luck. I rolled back, then reinstalled, only to find the reinstall failed, so I’m still on 18290. I’m attempting another reinstall. I’ll let you know what happens. It’s strange to see other systems upgrading with sound but this one just had none.
I copied this from Windows Ten Forum:
Workaround is the same as was years ago (information is from
    old thread at MS forums
, posted by 3juan and RajithR):

    1. Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC on Device Manager.
    2. Select Driver tab.
    3. Click Update Driver... button.
    4. Select -> Browse my computer for driver software.
    5. Select -> Let me pickup a list of device drivers on my computer.
    6. Select High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Def... this is important.) and click Next.
Appears Warning message, but reply Yes.
    7. ! Windows has successfully update your driver software.

That only works for some people.

The changes to the start menu is probably the thing I like most in Win10. I believe it is the best start menu EVER in the Windows operating system history. That is the least problematic thing in all of windows, IMHO. My biggest problem with Windows now, is the simpleton icons that look like they were made in the eighties, the complete lack of customization in this operating system and them putting features out there only to take them back a few builds later (Sets).
I'm in agreement, smactilactus, except that I take the tiles off since they don't add anything. I think the Store is the least valuable app in Windows; who wants to pay for some of the apps that are free elsewhere? I can't remember which one it was now, but I declined.

As to the icons, most of what I use is third party and has its own icons. . . which are just there. If need be, I can go in and change 'em to something else. I have special icons for my data and external drives. Other than that, I just leave 'em alone.

Wow! After a few gazillion reports and even more upvotes, they finally answer you? And, to boot, they tell you which Build it's fixed in?

Maybe I should go to feedback and look again . . .

That only works if you have an IDT card, Jockanory. I happen to have one and it worked flawlessly.

I said thanks for this answer and didn't ask for another one, knowing that M$ frequently doesn't anwer so quickly.

Uhhhhh, didn't someone post a tweet that no new builds would be forthcoming until after the New Year? Hoping I'm wrong, but I'm afraid not.

I've had a trawl back through Dona's tweets and can't see anything.
