Well, folks, I think I found where Microsoft blew up Windows . . . Looky this:



Since it's December 12, it stands to reason the Driver date in the above belongs to Microsoft and not my system. Look at the Driver Provider: Microsoft; Driver Date: 12/5/2015; Driver version: 10.0.18298.1000; Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows

It looks to me like Microsoft updated the driver, but screwed up the installation! Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so it looks like all you have to do is update the High Definition Audio CODEC, but follow @Andre's instructions.

I have not got an IDT driver at all, just a plain HD audio driver.

Yes, it did, Magilla! I updated it in Build 18290, but when I reinstalled 18298, I had the same problem. I then went back and followed Andre's instructions again while the CODEC was still showing (if you try to install the drivers, the codec changes to Other with a splat)

I now have sound!
