    Short nap, Andre.

I know I'm crazy, but with the CODEC updated (yes, it needed updating; I think this is a way old PCI card), I'm going to chance it and let 18298 reinstall. Worst case scenario is that I still won't have any sound and will have to roll back again.
it worked for me, Wynona. STEP 6 is the key! (from post #160 from AnderTen)

Interesting - we all have different configurations some of which work and some not. I rolled back to previous build again but am doing a clean install to see if that makes any difference probably not but what the heck, worth a try.
My sound works as normal on both my computers (desktop/laptop), yes different configurations noting that mine has no Realtek stuff.

update that unknown device with the drivers I linked.

Here is also one answer from MS forums (dated 2015):
Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! It worked, Andre! More or less!

I updated "High Definition Audio Device" in 18290, then updated to Build 18298 and no joy. So, on the off chance of Microsoft getting something wrong that deleted my CODEC, I did it again! Glory Be! It worked this time and I have sound!

Andre, rewrite your instructions to include all High Definition Audio Devices and post as a "workaround solution". All you need to change is this line, I think.

    1. Select your High Definition Audio CODEC on Device Manager.

Yes, it did, Magilla! I updated it in Build 18290, but when I reinstalled 18298, I had the same problem. I then went back and followed Andre's instructions again while the CODEC was still showing (if you try to install the drivers, the codec changes to Other with a splat)

    I now have sound!

I notified another one of Andre's fix. I tagged you in the post so maybe you'll get a notification letting us know if it works with other CODECs.

Mine is not showing as IDT and the existing driver is not IDT so not working for me.
