Installed the Microcode update on both my Intel I7 7700 Desktop and Intel I7 7700HQ Laptop, performance wise feels about the same to me in that regard, in the various games i play thru out the day, Overall doesn't seem to have degraded performance much in that regard this time. Inspectre still shows performance as Good, which is not bad to me.

Previously up til September 2017 was using AMD FX 8310 8 Core based system, decided to upgrade to Intel September 2017, and enjoyed it so much, December 23rd purchased Intel based laptop, then story broke on Meltdown and Spectre, but still very happy with performance, debating on going for whole system upgrade one more time soon, or just upgrading video card in this Asus maybe--not sure yet.

Guess will decide somepoint in the future what i wanna do, Believe i'll go for another Intel based Asus system, probably a GL12 model

I have a netbook with Intel Atom x5-Z8350. Intel has released micro codes for it but Microsoft don't seem to use them.
that's an Intel Cherry Trail CPU,

Microsoft does not even mention Cherry Trail processors like the atom x5-z8350 on any of their intel microcode patches.

Intel released a microcode for spectre but Microsoft didn't put it in the update.

Asus just updated the BIOS for my Strix X99 Gaming to 1903 and ...
    - I restored all my OC settings and no degradation at least, may try to improve at some point.
    - CPU microcode went from 2a to 2e in the BIOS CPU info, improving Speculative Control to include Speculative Store Bypass,
    ... and even better,
    - I replaced the mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll file to Windows/System32 and rebooted ... no OC degradation!

Intel in pdf has a mistake

The x5-E8000 is a 406c3 processor and the x5-zxxx a 406c4 processor so for the z8350 the microcode is the 410.

New update 2 days ago https://support.microsoft.com/sv-se/...rocode-updates

    Download Microsoft Update Catalog

It seems Microsoft doesn't provide the microcode update through windows update anymore! One should check manually
