Microsoft appears to be in no rush to provide the microcode update from Intel except for users of older versions of Windows 10. Microsoft is repeating the mistake of telling users to get the microcode update from their device manufacturers through a BIOS/UEFI update. Only a small fraction of Windows users will get the microcode update this way. And repeatedly doing BIOS updates is risky.
Important Please note that at the release of this advisory, microcode updates provided by Microsoft for Intel processors are not available for the following versions of Windows. These microcode updates will be released at a later date. Microsoft recommends that customers running these versions of Windows install applicable Windows updates and obtain microcode updates for Intel-based devices from their OEM::
- Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems
- Windows Server, version 1803 (Server Core Installation)
- Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems
- Windows Server 2019
- Windows Server 2019 (Server Core installation)

....It looks that I will never get any MS microcode update for my Intel i7 740 QM (first generation)...
Strangely 1903 does have microcode updates released:
https://support.microsoft.com/fi-fi/...rocode-updates
that's because Intel will not be offering the new microcodes to MS to Arrandale & Clarkdale CPUs like the i7-840qm
read this doc, Vaio 7:
https://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww...e_05132019.pdf
problem is that this update for 1903 covers Ivy Bridge and later CPUs as mentioned in this Intel PDF document
Sandy Bridge CPUs will be covered later but no plans for 1st gen Intel Core i3/i5/i7 & older CPUs
Interestingly is the are offering one for my Sandy Bridge B960, which of course being from Windows 7 days, will only get the uCU through Window/Microsoft Catalog.

Oh. wait again it is the same old file
What is Microsoft doing? this time there is a new microcode revision, and it should be a new KB release?
