That is true and they prove it every day. I think it was 2 years ago when MS fired a bunch of testers and we got 1803 and 1809.

Well I have my old fateful workaround.
    I'm with you!!! Cheers

This CU is an Out-of Band update and should be the same as the ones on Update Tuesday.
Out of band "C" and "D" updates are not automatically downloaded by windows update. Only the Patch Tuesday "B" release is automatic, the one with this month's security fixes. This is so that unsuspecting users are only forced into a restart once a month.

The out of band CUs only contain previews of non-security fixes scheduled for the next Patch Tuesday. If you want them, checking for updates should find them. There is an issue however that if you have deferred updates they may not be found even by checking for updates.

I will not change my delay to 0 as MS would probable push 1809 on me.
Then switch from 'Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted)' to 'Semi-Annual Channel' before temporarily setting delays to 0.

I got the "We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes" message.

At least the update backed out and didn't get stuck in a loop.

Now in the update history I have:

    Failed to install on ‎28/‎11/‎2018 - 0x80070032

Since updating to v1803, I experienced a wifi lockout or unsuccessful login attempt to every AP in my network. A reboot recovered the system back to normal operations. With that experience, I gave this update a shot.

I dl'd and ran Brink's link and about 3 seconds in, the system locked up before any update confirmation dialogs. I performed a hard reset/reboot and tried again. The second attempt ran normally until after the system rebooted. The post-update reboot brought desktop up and while system completed it's initialization it locked up again. So after another hard reset/reboot the version build incremented to 441 with no further lockups or lockouts.

My confidence in 1803 and MS is diminishing.

KB4467682 trades you old problems for one big new problem.

Yesterday, I installed this update and when my laptop reached the desktop screen, the "Personalized Settings" prompt froze. Then the whole laptop froze. I had to press and hold the power button to shut down. Then I powered on and it wouldn't go past the HP logo screen. Fortunately, I was able to do a System Restore and that got things back to normal.

MS, please bring back the old Windows Update scheme, complete with checkboxes so we can 1) do some research to find out if any of the listed updates have know issues and 2) determine whether or not we'll have enough time to download and install every single item or just one or two smaller items. The rest of the world runs on a tight schedule too, doncha know.

Only the "B" releases (the Patch Tuesday ones) get automatically downloaded by windows update. The "C" and "D" ones have no new security fixes, so are only are seen if you check for updates.

Update Tuesday (most often referred to as Patch Tuesday) updates are published the second Tuesday of each month. These updates are the primary and most important of all the monthly update events and are the only regular releases that include new security fixes.

In addition, it seems that in Pro if you have deferred features update by setting a non-zero 'days' you will not see the C/D updates even when you check for updates. See Post #10

That is absolutely true Bree. No C or D updates when you deffer Feature updates, even when you check for updates. To get them, you have to change the days to zero and check again for updates.
I have a small reservation though about rechecking for updates, after zeroing the setting. I think that last time I did it, I was offered the D update immediately after changed the days to 0. Needs to be verified in the next ones.

I can't imagine that was Microsoft's intended behaviour. It must be an unintended side effect of having marked the the C and D updates as not to be delivered on an automatic check but only when you manually check for updates. Seem's a bit odd, but at least the behaviour is known and we can work around it.
