This business of store apps taking the place of Windows Accessories irks me. As a pre-Interweb PC user, I dislike having to maintain this sort of umbilical cord to the Microsoft Store, which seems to enable them to install, update, downgrade, uninstall, and whatever other mischief they might think good on certain applications, without notification or permission. I know there is/are probably some setting/s that can mitigate some of this, but the cord is still there, I cannot reinstall Store apps from my own local standalone backup, and it really doesn't work as designed unless one is willing to log on to their system using a Microsoft Account. I don't do that. I won't do that. The whole reason to have a personal computer is that it is personal. Under personal control, not constantly asking Mother Microsoft for intervention via always-on connection to the internet. I only connect when I need to, and disconnect when done. Leave the bandwidth for others, and prevent falling prey to roaming bots, bugs, viruses, etc.
All your points are well taken. Have you considered using Linux and encapsulating your Windows into a VM? At least for the foreseeable feature I am only running this version of the OS as well as Insider versions of Winidows 10 Pro, Windows 10 for Workstations, and Windows 10 Enterprise as VMs in a dual boot Fedora Rawhide, Kubuntu 19.04 configuration. The only reason for me to login to a Microsoft Account is so I can use Onedrive. However I could do that via a browser if need be

@martyfelker - I have considered other OS options, espcially before I departed Windows 7. But I have responsibilities to users of W10, and have not the time or brain cells at this point in my life to learn that much new stuff at one time...

But I do appreciate the advice! This forum is the only reason I am able to deal with all the headaches and bad surprises Microsoft continues to innovate for us.

I've been dual-booting Windows and Linux since 1998. I primarily use Linux at this point. I am quasi-retired, and I finally don't 'need' Windows anymore. But my girlfriend is working on her PhD and uses some specialized field equipment - the only way to download the data and do the processing is with Windows software. So i'll probably be dual-booting for a while longer - like, eternity. But I essentially use Linux for everything now. So fast, so reliable, so understandable. I'm getting tired of constant breakage in Windows-land - it's like you can never relax. And the bloat. I get the sense that layer upon layer of is being loaded up, mostly to faciiitate corporate control.

But I've been using Windows since day 1. I used DOS before that. And I used CP/M before that, back when Microsoft's only product was a BASIC interpreter. I think I've come to the end of the line...

I started building 8088 clones in 1988; used various systems since. I guess I may have to consider learning about UNIX based OSes if Windows keeps getting worse.

I agree. I believe MS has Windows 10 is essentially the end state of the Windows Operating System. Interestingly enough from my point of view (I've been using Windows since version 3.0 - got into PC's relatively late - 1989) and fixed on OS/2 until I discovered Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux around 1995) the only innovation (and it is a great one) was WSL. I waiting to see if Microsoft buys a major Linux vendor (like SUSE) to compete with IBM buying Red Hat. In the meantime I just will continue to dual boot two Linux distros which share VMware VMs chief among them various Windows 10 flavors.

    Update:

New "Known Issue" below added to the first post for KB4467708.

After installing this update, users may not be able to use the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

The good old days when 2 meg of ram cost $2,000 and needed to be soldered to the board. I loved my Amiga too.
