I agree. I believe MS has Windows 10 is essentially the end state of the Windows Operating System. Interestingly enough from my point of view (I've been using Windows since version 3.0 - got into PC's relatively late - 1989) and fixed on OS/2 until I discovered Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux around 1995) the only innovation (and it is a great one) was WSL. I waiting to see if Microsoft buys a major Linux vendor (like SUSE) to compete with IBM buying Red Hat. In the meantime I just will continue to dual boot two Linux distros which share VMware VMs chief among them various Windows 10 flavors.

    Hi there
My main OS is CENTOS running KDE interface -- the free version of RHEL - while not the most leading edge it's 100% stable and I run windows in VM's. I use a couple of spare laptops for Windows testing when I need to use a physical machine however the only things I run Windows now are :

Ms Office 2010 (2015/2019 too many problems with outlook)
SAPGUI for Windows (to access client SAP systems)
    PHOTOSHOP
    LIGHTROOM
    Various clients VPN connections
    SKYGO
    DVD ripping
    Video conversion / editing.
    FIREFOX browsing

All these run very easily in VM's these days - Internet browing I generally stay on the Linux Host

I agree for games / really excessive hardware / graphics / specialized applications such as lab gear / medical / metering stuff etc you need to run Windows natively but for me my need for actual physical Windows is less and less.

With Office clones such as WPS Office becoming almost as good as Ms Office and even a SAPGUI type of app available on Linux I'll only need windows for PHOTOSHOP (I like GIMP but PHOTOSHOP still has it for professional / magazine quality work / workflows) and a decent email client --- I'm afraid Thunderbird has hosed itself up too much like the latest versions of outlook 2016/2019/365 in trying to automate the account configueration too much so it's impossible for some accounts to get it working especially if you have your own mail server on a hosted domain - So it's like;y I'll still keep a Windows VM for Outlook 2010 !!!!.

Ms made a big mistake IMO of not providing a Lean and mean Windows version such as been suggested here by other members -- for example a Windows Business edition and leave all the games / store apps tiles etc to other editions.

    Cheers
