I give up. I've been tryng to clean up the messed up Edge bookmarks. I have close to 1000 duplicates. If I go and RAW edit the database, and only remove duplicate links, some links disappear completely from the bookmarks (the one that I leave intact and should not disappear). Since I only removed links, not folders, there should be absolutely no dependency what so ever, so I should not get any orphaned objects, but apparently there is.

The Bookmarks database and the management of it is totally F***D UP. I don't know what kind of noob wanna be code monkey has programmed this garbage, but something has to change. What is the point of using a relational database if nothing is relational? JEEEZ!!!

There is no reason. Yesterday I was looking at an old Aspire. He said he was having problems with updates. Clicked checked for updates and he got 1809. My wife's laptop, Asus, won't go. Simple software, no blocks involved

My oldest computer was the first to update to 1809.

Microsoft claims that the October 2018 update is "fully available" to users who click on Check for updates. If that's true, then Windows Update is randomly blocking computers from receiving 1809 that shouldn't be blocked.

With reference to the problems I've been having with my Lenovo laptop, it has a Samsung 850 evo 500gb.
    Partitions as follows:
*: 100mb 29.6mb used fat32 GPT (EFI System partition) Active and System

C: 145.09gb 42.01gb used NTFS GPT (Data Partition) Boot

E: 320.57gb 132mb used NTFS GPT (Data Partition) none

This data from Mini Tool Partition Wizard Free 10.3.
Checking for updates today several times has the laptop telling me that it is up to date, maybe there is a limit on the attempts allowed.
I have updated two desktops to 1809 in the last couple of days, both AMD.

I think I figured out a couple things:

Yesterday I was on 10.0.17134.523 and 1809 was not showing up in Windows update. No October update in sight.
I tried "Windows Update Assistant" (Download Windows 10), and the update would fail after rebooting every time within 5 seconds, with a rather obtuse "0x80070002 0x20009", which I translated via this link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...llation-errors

"The system cannot find the file specified."
"If you have a disk or disks where you are not installing Windows 10 on, remove those disks."

That's when I remembered: This machine has 3 other hard disks installed (1x Linux, 2x Btrfs -- NONE of which have ever exchanged ANY information with Windows, or vice versa, and NO boot sectors are shared. ALL of them are hidden in device manager and NONE of them are used by windows). This system also boots via oldschool BIOS, so no UEFI used by either Windows or Linux.

... After pulling all 3 drives out and leaving only the WIndows one in, then re-running Windows Update Assistant -- I'm now on 10.0.17763.288. I've *NEVER* activated the Windows Insider Program, so why on earth am I on this build? :/

Not complaining... but something fishy going on here.

Give up. You can never get that bookmark section straightened out. I have tried over and over with no luck. And I’ve had that experience of some disappear after I tried to clean them up. That’s why I’m using Internet explorer.

My bookmarks in edge on the two pc's running 1809 have changed by themselves, possibly an attempt has been made to get them into alphabetical order. A few of my most used sites have disappeared altogether. My bookmarks in the 18312 Insider Preview remain unchanged.

Bookmark handling in Edge is insane, just a hot mess. I was trying to use Edge one day, and watched as all of my bookmarks just disappeared, one by one, until they were all gone. WTF? And favicons don't work half the time. Come on MS, everyone else seems to be able to manage bookmarks, why can't you?

Is no one surprised that MS is re-doing Edge? Quite honestly, I've never used it, but it still creates files and folders that CCleaner gets rid of all the time. FF & Chrome work just fine. Even IE doesn't have the issue.

Oh you experience exactly the same as me then. Thanks for letting me know. It's a freaking pain. I have so many important bookmarks, and I can not afford to lose them.

I just fired up Chrome. Everything exactly as I left it 1.5 years ago. I hate to do this, because Edge on Android is awesome, except for the bookmarks thingie, but switching over to Chrome as default now.

I have deleted partition E on my laptop and increased C to use the entire ssd in case that was stopping 1809 from running, but now the only updates available are routine WD ones. (ref #1122)
