I tried 1809 again and at first I thought it would work but a few things bothered me enough that I went back to 1803:

    1. Brightness issue. Brightness will drop to 50% on restart or boot. Issue will go away temporarily for a few restarts/boots but then it comes back.

    2. Microsoft changed the way colors behave. If I use default wallpaper and let it choose color, as I always do, it now gives a very dark blue to title bars and tops of browsers where before it was a light easy blue. It's not easy to correct since any change makes some things too light or too dark. If I change theme on FF it slows it slightly - changes loading behavior. I like it very fast. I had a code that at one point seemed to work using userChrome.css file, but now doesn't - it doesn't makes the text of menu bar dark and instead keeps it white. I just find this very annoying. Why change a basic thing from how it has behaved from the beginning.

    3. If i right click on desktop etc and choose "new", like I'm going to create a new folder or text file, it just sits there for 5 seconds or so and does nothing. 1803 does not do this.

The bug of the brightness and the bug of the "new" option were fixed some time ago in the insider builds, so it is expected that soon they will be fixed in O18U with a CU, (I'm not sure if the latest CU, KB4469342, fixed those bugs).

EDIT: After doing some tests, I confirmed that the bug of the "new" option in the context menu was not fixed with the latest CU.

Thanks LEOPEVA64. As far as I know I was up to date on CUs etc and the bugs were present for me. Good to know they have been addressed. I have to work on a new theme or color arrangement to prepare for 1809. I'll stay in 1803 for now meanwhile.

But there is a new CU that is only available for the RP ring, that CU is the one I am referring to.

I see. I'm not an insider and don't have access to that. Good to know it will be fixed. Now I have to figure out a theme/color arrangement that I can like.

I think I will now post my problem as solved with the problem of my Creative Labs problem. I will stay with version 1709 installed without any Microsoft updates because once I get the update for version 1803 that's where my problem starts. I know my computer is not compatible with Windows 1803 and above but mostly I am using it as a test program. I can easily swap my HDD to Windows 7 without any problems at all. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

You're using a tool that has not been updated since April 2018. InSpectre does not check for mitigations other than for variants 1 through 3.

I would be surprised if the uCode update database is more up to date than April 2 2018, Intel released revised uCode on July 13 and again on August 8.

    Spectre Threat CVE Designation

    Bounds Check Bypass (Spectre-PHT) 2017-5753 1
Bounds Check Bypass on Store 2018-3693 1.1
    Read Only Protection Bypass (Meltdown-RW) 2018-3693 1.2
    Branch Target Injection (Spectre-BTB) 2017-5715 2
    Rogue Data Cache Load (Meltdown–US) 2017-5754 3
    Speculative Store Bypass 2018-3639 4
    Rogue System Register Read (Meltdown-GP) 2018-3640 3a
Lazy FP State Restore (Meltdown–NM) 2018-3665 NG
Bounds Check Bypass Store 2017-5753 NG
Return Stack Buffer Exploit (Spectre-RSB) 2017-5715 RSB
    NetSpectre No CVE NS
    L1 Terminal Fault (Foreshadow) (Meltdown – P) 2018-3615 L1TF
    OS & SMM 2018-3620 L1TF
    HyperV (Server only) 2018-3646 L1TF
    Meltdown-PK No CVE (Server only)
    Meltdown-BR No CVE

InSpectre is no longer relevant, use Specucheck or the PowerShell script
I realise Winactive is no longer about, but has anyone else tried Specucheck from the link above?
What's it meant to look like?
All I get is a quick screen flash and that's it - nothing running in Task Manager
    Am I missing something here.....?
Oh, still on 1803, not that that should make a difference to this issue....should it?

Yeah - annoying as bug is fixed in Insider Progamme so why not back port bug fix?

I have both creative x fi pci express sb0880 and an older pci x fi gamer pci. Both work in all windows versions in an z97 platform and the pci one in a p45 old platform. I use daniels k drivers. I also have both recap some of their power capacitors.
