    follow up stories on that:

If I was CEO at MS, I'd be concerned about the lack of Insiders - in the broader scheme of things, given the corporate component, it's still measly for a 'rolling release'.

Finally my wife's laptop, on its own, updated to 1809. No issues.

A clients machine also updated yesterday, that didn't go as well. It updated, rebooted and presented her with the first screen to either use voice recognition or not. She wasn't sure what was happening and unplugged the device. It now boots to a black screen.

I asked why? She responded with all the news about home devices listening to you she became scared she was being spied on.

    Ken, I feel your pain...
This may not be the best analogy but carpenter's have a saying; Measure twice and cut once. In other words and this holds true for any action one takes in life, always double even triple check before you take an action that may be irreversible. You can always re-cut a long board but a short one goes for another project or in the burn barrel.

In your experience with updates would the client's machine sit there indefinitely until there was a response from the her? She should of called you.

It seems strange that the client's machine needed that variable for voice recognition answered. When I used the UA (Update Assistant) I wasn't presented with any choice for it, do you remember if your wife's machine asked for it?

Last question, please tell me either she or you had an image.

    Hi Anak

She did call me, I was at dinner.... by the time I called back she had already taken action. She knew it was updating as we had discussed in afternoon and I clicked restart with her permission.

Actually I've been called by lots of clients and it happen on my wife's laptop, it goes through all the set up questions like a clean install. Voice recognition, Ad identifier, diagnostic feedback, Inking and location services.

No image. When ever we talk about backup she states she doesn't use the computer enough to warrant any more spend. Then she gets an email and we go to "Battle Stations". If she can't read it the world will end. Yesterday it was a shipping label that gmail had sent to Spam and she couldn't find it.

My hat's off to you, you have the patience of Job! I seem to be loaded with sayings today, no image eh? 'penny wise and pound foolish'.

Well I'm not going worry why I didn't get any of the set-up questions and I better get outa' here before I come up with another sayin'.

    Have a great day Ken!
