1809 seems to be safe now, unless one still has some compatibility issues hardware or driver-related, in which case it just won't install.

I think that 'before that build' was referring to Insider builds. Seems that the name changed in build 17682 back in May 2018. AFAIK it's still named Superfetch in the current 1803 build 17134.619.

no superfetch service at 1809??? Solved - Windows 10 Forums
    Thanks for the link!!

Thanks to everyone who've confirmed 1809 is now stable.

I've found it equally as stable as an upgrade. My System One below started with OEM W7 and has been through every upgrade since W10 was launched, up to and including 1809.

On my other machine I have gone from Windows 7 to 8.0 to 8.1 to Windows 10. At some point I clean installed, not because of issues, but because I had so much bloat on my computer and I upgraded my SSD that a fresh start was faster for me to start from scratch.

I've upgraded to each new release without any real issues.

On my other computer, I've never clean installed. It came with original Windows 10 RTM. No issues there either.

EDIT: On my insider VMs however, I've had a bunch of glitches or issues every now and then, but have only clean installed a few times and done a few in place refreshes. Usually these glitches has been resolved within a few iteration of IP releases.

My laptop that was blocked from updating to 1809 due to the Intel driver issue, just started updating to 1809 after manually searching for an update.
