I got impatient and used Windows 10 Update Assistant to update my computer to version 1809.

I think Windows Update had placed an upgrade block on the computer due to a faulty graphics card driver that Windows Update itself had installed in October. I updated the driver about 3 weeks ago, but the block apparently was never lifted. Strange.

Yes I too have got impatient and used the ISO to update my remaining machines.

I never wait for Microsoft to decide it's time for me to get a major update, but grab it as soon as it's released and I can get my hands on it. They may have their schedule, but I also have mine.

I'm the opposite - I rarely want to be an early adopter, even on my test PCs. This 1809 though has been, as I'm sure you'll agree, exceptionally troublesome. For a October update to still be rolling out in January after a nasty false start is almost beyond belief even for MS!

I was about to ask you to run the dism command to confirm that, but you added that confirmation before I had finished typing my reply.

    Thanks for the heads-up

That's my approach too. Let the early adopters be the beta testers!
