Starting with Windows 10 Microsoft has made it clear that they want to control updates, so I let them. Its too bad they screw it up royally.
Not really!. With over millions and millions of users with different system configurations, bugs happen and will continue to happen in the future.

Have you tried with MCT? Just asking, cause lots have given up with the wait-for-no-reason scenario. If you are pretty sure you're compatible (I know, you said you were), get the MCT ISO and upgrade yourself. Make sure you have a good image backup first. Worst scenario is it won't work. Best is you're up and running 1809.
I totally agree with your approach. If you remember, it was a minority that had their data files deleted after installing 1809 update when it first came out. The vast majority of users around the world didn't have this issue, even though @bru said it didn't want to do it like you have suggested. I think it's the only way to find out why @bru is not receiving 1809 yet. Remember the following:

    Note on upgrade blocks:
Blocking the availability of a Windows 10 feature update to devices we know will experience issues is a key aspect of our controlled rollout approach to provide users with a great update experience. We decide what to block based on user impact from closely monitoring feedback and device diagnostics. Blocking issues are a high priority for us to address as quickly as possible. If we detect that your device may have an issue, such as an application incompatibility, we will not install the update until that issue is resolved, even if you “Check for updates”. We do this so that you avoid encountering any known problems.

I answered that previously. I'm on the wait until I receive it (if ever) program I guess. I just find it sad that MS can't distribute its updates in a timely manner. I won't even get into issues with problems with updates, but when you can't even distribute them to your customers that is pretty bad.
All of the above is to say that if I were in your shoes, I would heed the advice of @f14tomcat and give it a try (have a go at it) in order to find out if you have any issue after upgrading to 1809 with the .iso of MCT. You can always roll back with a system image backup. LOl!

This isn't first time MS took staggered approach to distributing new build. It took few months for first CU to reach most everyone and there were not as many problems with new build.

Wasn't that to prevent server overload? This time it's because the build was causing major problems for some users. IMHO if MS wants to release new builds every six months they need to stop adding new features earlier and use the extra time to fix known bugs.

This isn't working for me! Edge bookmarks are totally borked up AGAIN! I have tens of duplicates of same bookmarks AGAIN! I just cleaned them up on all my devices where I use Edge. I will have to revert back to Chrome. I can't find squat in this mess.

Same here! Edge is a hot mess and it won't let me fix the problem. My favorite browser is still FF and I only use chrome or IE if a website forces me to.
No comment at all on this one , but really worth reading:

    @IronZorg89 @Barman58

Yes that is definitely Click Bait, but there's some truth to this too. Google has done a lot of changes lately and those changes has caused Edge to run like crap. But still it is not their fault that Egde can't render these changes properly.

However there's a slight chance that Google has found this weak spot in Edge and done some changes on purpose that does not have any real purpose on those services like adding extra DIV tags around YouTube videos. Totally useless tags.

Moving forward from my above Posts #1027 and subsequent replies. This is merely my recent (January 3rd) experience. To recap: None of my various PCs have yet offered 1809 however I set Advanced Options and however many times I Check for Updates.

My aging Tosh Satellite (Win 10 Home) is the only critical one mainly because I DON'T want it suddenly updating when I'm travelling and on slow WiFi with few resources available!

So I created a Macrium Image and updated manually using the ISO (Thanks again to @Bree @Caledon Ken and @CountMike )

After having downloaded the ISO, the actual update took about 1 hour - then it did some CUs and other updates ending up at Version 1809 OS Build 17763.195

I've used it now for a couple of days and cannot honestly say it feels that different to 1803!

Maybe (?) it boots up or Restarts a little slower but that may just be subjective - as I have an SSD, Hibernation is disabled so it's always a full boot never a Fast Start which I don't use anywhere anyway.

Everything worked S/W and H/W-wise, including peripherals - I've had NONE of the issues that others have been so unfortunate to suffer.
The only "problem" is Event ID 1534 in Event Viewer as discussed here New 1809 update now shows this in Event Viewer

As far as that goes, like the well-known DCOM 10016 events, I think it's best left ignored! Maybe MS will fix it one day?

I don't used Edge much (I prefer Chrome) but my 1 or 2 Edge Favourites were retained. I have Norton Security for F/W and A/V so the only real improvement I can see in 1809 is Snip & Sketch which is apparently going to replace Snipping Tool at some stage(?)

Presently, my laptop has both Snip & Sketch AND Snipping Tool so I have a choice.

And as for my other PCs - unless 1809 is PUSHED to them, (and as long as MS is still sending Security updates for 1803) they can stay on 1803 until after April when I presume the next Feature Update comes along and we can start all the fun again (as I also mentioned above). After all if I do want to update them, I still have the ISO....

Just thought a success story might brighten this thread up
