I just dragged one from the MS Start Menu and one from CS Start Menu (4.3.1 Original CS) to the Desktop. Look fine.

That's good to know.
I had a number of desktop shortcuts with the white icon file.
It did not matter if I dragged them from default 10 start menu, or Classic Shell.
The .bat fixed it. Newly dragged icons show correctly.
Hoping it's just a one time deal with the upgrade-reupgrade.

CS 4.3.1 Does work, Just found out after I posted this. Makes me wonder why this App was stopped being Developed..

On GitHub, they are saying the original Classic Shell did not work on Insider builds.
Works ok on normal released 1809.

Looking around GitHub, it's very easy to get lost by the way,
I found something dated 4 months ago (July), that might have something to do with menu crashing.
Looks like Ivo was helping out writing some code for them:

Don't know if that made its way into Open-Shell
I think there must have been earlier code fixes by others on GitHub added as well, to get fully working menu on insider builds.

Overall, original larger 1809 along with the smaller updates on my pro system are working fine.
I'll still keep watching this thread for awhile just in case.

Classic Shell works just fine on 1809.
However, I have not used/configured all it's parameters.

Start10 is a nice ($5) alternative but it lacks cascading menus.

I gave money generously to Classic Shell for a few years.
Might as well get my moneys worth staying with it.
I like both Windows 10 default menu as well as the classic.

I'm sticking with CS or Open Shell as well. But I don't like the Windows 10 start menu even a tiny bit. It's ugly IMO and requires too many clicks to navigate through folders and subfolders to reach what I want. My Open Shell start menu is highly customized and the Windows menu is too limited to handle that setup well.

I understand larc919

For myself, the thin animated scrollbars were a little hard to use in menu/explorer.
1809 gave us the option to turn off the thin line for always on one size width.
I took it.

Is there an option for Windows 10 start menu to reduce the width of the tile area more?
I don't want to use a registry tweak to shrink the tile area.
I only have 17 important tiles displayed. I unpinned the rest.
Just a waste of space.

The "waste of space" is only temporary when you use the start menu.

Anyway 17 tiles is 3 columns x 6 rows (or 4x5 rows) which fits rather well without excessive wasted space.
