No cancel button. I imaging you could disconnect from Internet and run the Windows Update reset.

Not sure why you would check for updates, as a seeker, and then cancel. Your machine will be up to date on your current version and we suspect 1809 is behind the door.

MS has recommended people wait until WU does its job and that is what I'm doing on my daily machine. Successfully updated, like several other here, to update with MCT.

We talk about MS 'pushing' an update or not, but technically, they do not push. Windows 10 checks for updates roughly every day. Or you can click 'check for updates' at any time. The MS update servers can tell whether an update request comes from the Win10 scheduled check, or a 'forced' check. They can make certain updates only available to 'forced' updates, i.e., someone actively clicks on the check updates button. They have called people who do this 'seekers' or 'advanced users'.

When an update is truly considered safe for the mainstream, it will be made available to the normal daily scheduled update. It is not 'pushed', i.e., the MS servers do not initiate a download/install. WU makes its usual check for updates and it's made available. It only seems 'pushy'

Words have meanings, especially in technical applications. "Push" means something other than how people have been using it here lately.

The problem is that when you click Check for updates, you never really know what's going to be downloaded and installed (which is why I rarely click it). You might be looking for something in particular and end with something optional that you don't want.

Very true, and a good reason not click that button. Unless you are a 'seeker' :)

Odd this thinking of pushing updates.Just set up a new laptop (AMD) for granddaughter yesterday ready for the big day. Initialised with 1803 version. No matter how much I "pushed" for updates it stayed on 1803. So much for being a seeker.

We suspended Windows 10 classes in November, so my Lappy 17 has been dormant for awhile. Since classes will resume in January, I updated her and she immediately got a number of updates, including update to 17763.195.

No way to stop that from happening . . .
