Hopefully now that some are getting it by checking for updates Microsoft's 'health data' will start to be collected. All being well, we may see the rollout accelerate as more machines get it through windows update. I have not yet seen a verified report of a machine getting it automatically through windows update, but that can only be a matter of time now that MS have more telemetry,

Geez; Maybe the folks at Microsoft are human after all...

I still haven't automatically gotten 1809 through WU. I haven't touched the "Check For Updates" button since the first warning earlier in this thread. The few auto updates I got were for upgrading 1803, Flash, Malicious Tool etc.
I figure they'll pump out 1809 to my rig in the middle of January. I'm in no rush. It's Winter. I've got hot cocoa.

OK, Bree confused me (an easy task) with the statement about MS getting "health data" via others doing the Check For Updates method to roll out v.1809. Isn't that what the Basic and Full Diagnostics & Feedback function does? If not, what is the telemetry difference between "Check For Updates" and "Diagnostics & Feedback"?

I'd say your right in thinking what the basic and full diagnostics and feedback function does.

And I'd think check for updates just checks for KB numbers, if you don't have it you're gonna get it. And diagnostics an feedback goes over the log entries and such.

They work together to determine if/when you see the features update in windows update. The lowest level of Diagnostics & Feedback MS receive from you (unless you have hacked the registry to prevent it) is Basic. this provides MS with...

The Basic (or Full) telemetry from other machines that have taken the features update has been analysed by MS to determine if you are likely to have a successful update, if not then you won't be offered the features update though windows update. "Check for updates" is a request to the update servers to see what the current position is for your machine, taking into account what the latest telemetry tells MS about other similar machines and based on....

Got it yesterday. Had to manually check for updates to get it.
You are the first person I've heard of who got the re-released 1809 via WU. Good to see MS is finally starting to roll it out. Soon we'll hear the complaints from people who have problems with it.

Well done to early adopters for being willing beta testers for those of us who defer these updates!

some of us have been unintentional beta testers since the beginning of October when it was first (briefly) released. Oddly enough, apart from 'The Big One' (which didn't affect me) it's been one of the least buggy Features Updates I've seen. I've been running 1809 since Oct 2nd with no significant problems. The early 1803 on the other hand was one of the worst IMHO.

Thank you for beta testing v1803 which I have just upgraded to without problems.
