Still no 1809 on an HP laptop, despite manual "check for updates". Amd cpu and no intel drivers. Any reason why?

I don't recall seeing anyone getting it thru WU yet. They just released another cumulative to the Release Preview ring yesterday, which is the staging and testing area for 1809. The whole thing is complex, at best. If there is a new cumulative just released to other RP ring, MS is in wait mode for feedback. That's my guess and it's no better or worse than anybody else, cause MS seems to have terminal laryngitis when it comes to discussing progress.

Well it's about time something was released through WU. 1803 got one today with the fix for not being able to set default apps, the same bug that afflicts 1809

I have this issue. I have found no work around for it. I also mentioned it earlier in this thread or another one...I don't know if M$ has it as a bug to be fixed.
For your cases, this article seems to be the right target to answering, putting an end to your frustrations:
