It's been over 3 days now and 1809 is still not being offered to me by WU?

Everything is set properly to receive it. Any ideas why WU wont push it?

    Thanks.

Build 17763.165 was recently released (with no change log) to the RP ring only, which tells me that it's not ready for prime time yet. Could be this coming week but imo more likely the week after due to the holiday.

Are they finally concerned about releasing a bug ridden Feature Update to the general public? Maybe, but if not for the bad press they've received it would have been happily rolled out six weeks ago.

It wasn't just bad press, if they'd knowingly continued rolling out the 'Russian Roulette' 17763.1 version it would have been lawsuits from all the users with deleted files.

I think MS are being ultra-cautious second time round and haven't started the automatic roll out yet. I have two 1803 machines running near-continuously and WU hasn't seen the 'Features Update to Windows 10, version 1809' yet, even when clicking on 'Check for updates'. I guess MS want to analyse the telemetry from those who installed manually before pulling the trigger.

    I agree with you.

I'll just wait until their QA works the kinks out but they shouldn't have re-released it a second time if they weren't certain.
Do you know if they have pulled it again or is it just being phased in slowly?

If it had been pulled it wouldn't still say 'October 2018 Update' and be available to download by the MCT here: Download Windows 10

That was the first thing they pulled last time. No, I think MS are just waiting for the telemetry to confirm it's going smoothly for the "seekers" before starting the automatic roll out.

On the other hand they might know they have a bug somewhere and just hoping several people (who knows maybe they need only one) to uncover. Their release behavior has been utterly bizarre and unfathomable most of the year.

You are in luck. MS won't send an update for your PC via Windows Update until they think it's sufficiently bug free for your PC. Since you have the Pro version I would also defer the update for a period of your choice.

Since 1607 I have been successfully using MCT to create media for updating my computers and often computers of my friends and associates. I've never had problems up until the 1809 re-release. As soon as the release came out I downloaded the image using MCT and created an ISO from which I created a DVD and a USB drive. I successfully updated my desktop mainframe computer from the DVD with no issues. But when it came to my HP Spectre x360 laptops the updates consistently failed with error code 0x800F081F - 0X20003 and the notice that "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during INSTALL_UPDATES operation" The installation then rolled back the computer to its prior state. I tried the update in several ways:
    • From the DVD in an external USB DVD drive
    • From the USB drive I had created using MCT
    • From the Windows download page using the UPDATE NOW button
    • Mounting the ISO file and executing setup
In all cases the results were the same.

Note my HP Spectres run from EUFI mode and not legacy mode.

I'm suspicious it's a hardware failure but unsure what is the best approach to resolve.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated
Usual approach- research the error message, read the update logs on your PC, disable or uninstall any AV that might interfere and any unnecessary peripherals.... guidance in notes in tutorial:

For more, you'd need to start your own thread- but first try researching threads with that error message on this forum.

17763.165 rolled out to me in the UK overnight, My system is on the original RP release, [plus updates], and still no obvious issues
