UPDATE 5/3:
Current status of Windows 10 October 2018 Update version 1809. See first post for more details.
Well I finally bit the bullet and did a clean install with Win 10 1809 latest.
All went well.
I had to disconnect everything and just had the SSD and my mouse and keyboard attached.
Used a DVD ISO to install as I couldn't get a USB install to start but I think I was too inpatient as it booted to the windows logo but froze there I thought.
Maybe it would have worked if I waited longer like I did on the DVD install meh...
The DVD install took such a long time to get going that I thought I still had issues:///
I now have a fresh install of Win 10 v1809 and will keep it as small as possible and only install the apps I really need.
After setup I took a backup with Macrium so I have a working 1809 image to fall back on.
Bonus.
I have had a restart issue since I upgraded to 1607 from 1503 back in August 2016.
When I restarted my PC the screen would just go dark and the PC would still run but not restart.
I had to manually push the reset button to restart.
Tried all the "fixes" at the time with no luck.
So I just lived with it.
This has now been fixed by the clean install to 1809.
Go figure.
So it was worth the pain after all.
Many thanks to everyone who replied to my posts and offered advice.
Love this forum.

You're welcome, that is great news!
I'm glad to hear that your machine is running okay again, and you even won the bonus round!
That restart issue could of been the problem one member was pointing to when s/he mentioned you might have bigger issues.
Something happened when you upgraded from 1503 to 1607 and that was causing your stall issue when trying to install 1809, 1809 could not restart when it needed to. The clean install overwrote that and maybe other issues and now your back in business!
Time to relax and
Great news. Thanks for posting your results. Hope you don't have to use that Image any time soon !!
Hello
I noticed mention of the new 1903 build and that it was said it will solve some problems with creative sound cards. I wanted to ask if would apply to my X-fi platinum fatality champion. An example would be Like the driver disappearing after 3 days.
I don't know if this will help, but you might want to look at it.
Creative Worldwide Support > X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series
Just got KB4505056 which has moved the build number to 17763.504. No problems so far.
