Thank for the reply, I did try a reboot as I thought it may disappear but it stayed..
I did a search to "remove a non existent folder" and found this command rd /S /Q C:\Windows.old seem to have got rid of it :)

Yes the command I provided uses a built in system variable which in your case equates to C:\ which is the default system drive and the drive letter for the majority of users.

I am actually a little concerned.... So far I have not found anything wrong or appear to have had any issues since my HP notebook updated to 1809 yesterday... I did not even get the usual HP driver issue, this just came up with a message saying it had been updated and a reboot was required as soon as the 18009 update finished :)
Could Microsoft have finally got this release right :)
Only issue I did have was as mentioned earlier, I needed to delete all the downloads in the software distribution folder to allow it to re-download to fix the corrupt file error... once that was done it went well... So far...lol

My new ideapad came with 10 and was doing okay until 1809 came along, 1803 is still updating okay but it isn't seeing 09. I believe it has to do with the fact that for what-ever reason lenovo has a Cisco security suite called EAP, LEAP, and PEAP installed on it, it's usually used only in business / business server situations for laptops.
I'm still on the fence whether or not I want to fuss with it, I'd have to rename or uninstall the LEAP modules then wait to see if that's okay with 10updates. If you remember the old military acronym's it's SNAFU.

What is Windows Developer Mode?
What is Windows Developer Mode and why is it preventing 1809 install attempts from completing successfully? I have been struggling with getting one of my HP Spectre x360 notebooks to update since 1809 was released (post #398). Today I discovered a post in the HP User Community about a failure mechanism that closely resembled mine. As suggested in the post I uninstalled the Windows Developer Mode option application and reran the 1809 update from the latest ISO (which had failed just yesterday.) The update now completed successfully with version 17763.316. I am not sure how this Developer Mode got installed or enabled, but it has to have been there for some time and through several updates without protesting.
