Has anyone (who wants to ) who is still on 1803 been able to successfully hide the 1809 feature update with the show/hide tool yet? It never comes up for me. I see the updates for 1803 and defender but never 1809 feature update. I have my ethernet connection set to metered. If I take it off for a few minutes, WU will find 1809 and start the installation at some point.

As a result, I cannot get the latest CU for 1803 because it will bring 1809 with it. And then I have to do a 5 minutes macrium backup image reinstall. Obviously, Windows 10 is ready to give me 1809 without me even touching the check for updates button, but not ready to make it available to show/hide. Is there a way I can force a hide somehow? I'd like to be able to check for updates and get the CUs without fear of 1809 installation. And I'd like to remove the metered connection.

I've been trying to hide it for a long while now.
Maybe you could try PSWindowsUpdate, to see if you can hide 1809. Very good PowerShell module.

No it only finds the defender update. No 1809 feature update.

Do I have to turn off metered connection before running the commands? I'm afraid it will grab 1809.

Update: tried it, still just the defender update.

That's a great program/script. I installed the defender update and reinstalled the 3047 update (i unhid it) with it in case it wants it for 1809 installation... though I never got offered it while there. I'm leaving the 1MB 0347 microcode update uninstalled for now.

I'll use this powershell script to check for 1809 and other updates. Great having control over the updates like this. Fast install as well. Thanks ddelo.

    You're most welcome.
I do find it very helpful too. I have made a script to check for updates daily and by its output I hide the updates I don't want installed, mostly the microcode updates!
Now regarding 1809, I'm afraid that if its not showing by PSWindowsUpdate, there is a very good chance that is not offered by WU either. Make a Macrium image and give it a try.

I've it done twice before and gotten burned - with show/hide tool. What happens is, I'll take off metered and press check for updates, it will download a CU or defender update, and then after restart (with CU), when it comes back up it's downloading 1809. Going by memory I could be wrong, but I even took the meter off and downloaded the CU or whatever, put meter back on, restarted, and it still started downloading 1809. This is with it not showing 1809 in show/hide.

I still might try it but I have to think about it and prepare emotionally lol.

Ok so i did a macrium image, took off the metered connection and checked for updates. This is the result:

Anyway, I'll be back, I'm going to use my backup to get out of it.

    @tomseys

    I'm sorry it didn't work.
Go back to your image (I just did it.... for another reason!..hahaha) and I would stay away from 1809 too, at least for now.
Although after a clean install, a month ago, I took the plunge and installed it. Big mistake.... lots of issues, yet.

@tomseys - when you say you have used the windows show/hide with mixed results (trying to follow), have you tried this? I use it and it's easy way to check for what's lurking out there without fear of anything taking off and updating. Easy to hide stuff, and/or run what it shows right from the app. Take a look. Others may use this, too. I think it is different than show/hide. x86 and x64 version, so get the right one.

Yeah so I went back with my macrium image - 10 minutes off my 3.0 USB drive.

Yeah I have to stay far away from the check for updates button. And keep it on metered connection. Just wish I could hide the thing via hide/show tool or the script but it never shows up, meanwhile its always lurking, ready to pounce, if I let it.
