Yes, @Edwin mentioned it in this comment, but only some insiders have it (I don't have any of that):
    Attachment 211774
    Thanks - missed that.
I just think it is ridiculous all users do not get this! Is this a smokescreen for a hidden fubar where uwp apps are not being reliably deployed (just thought I would start a new conspiracy theory :-D)

Tried to update again after installing a driver. This time I let it do updates first. Again stuck on "Working on Updates 12%" I used UUP. This is getting so frustrating.

If used UUP Alpha , is there log info that will be more useful than the image on posted in this post New Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast + Skip Build 18277 (19H1) Nov. 7

    Hi folks

    2 more defects :

    1) on Laptop with 3 port USB3 adapter and built in LAN adapter. (Anker -- usually 100% reliable hardware in my experience).

The system pings every few minutes as the lan adapter disconnects and the laptop tries to use slower built in wifi card. This happens even when there's no other USB device plugged in to the port. Not a power issue as the adapter is plugged into the charging (i.e powered) port of an HP envy laptop.

Means I have to use far slower wifi than lan on the laptop for this build. (Direct ethernet connection on another machine is fine though so I suspect something fishy with the USB processes on this build.

This device works perfectly on build 1803 even with 3 self powered 4TB passport drives plugged in to the adapter. !!

    2) I use a KVM switch with wireless mouse. Every time I switch back to any machine running this build I get "We are setting up Wireless receiver" -- doesn't take long but it's still a second or two before I get mouse / keyboard response on the machine I've switched to.

This behaviour doesn't exist on build 1803 - thing switches seamlessly.

(KVM Keyboard/Video/Mouse switcher -- to share single mouse / keyboard / video between several machines for those who haven't used those or know what they are).

Definitely USB issues on this build I think.

    Cheers

I had no problems with USB2 or 3 in the clean install. USB2 is in chipset and 3 is on own chip (Asmedia). USB3/3.1 worked even without drivers mentioning Asmedia by name.
Other thing that happened is installation of GPU drivers (AMD Rx570), originally installed Generic MS drivers so I installed latest, 18.10.1 drivers. After checking for general updates, MS "updated" them to 17.2 !!!!

    Hi there
USB3 works fine with the standard internal ports - it's when I use an external hub that things go a bit wonky.
I have a sabrent USB3-->sata connector that works OK as does another (asmedia) connector. Can't get a sausage of a squeak with a startech USB3-->sata connector on any machine running this build.

I use the SATA connectors a lot as I have external sata drives which I connect by USB3. I can't add these drives to laptop with a PCIe card of course. USB3 when it works is perfectly fast enough -- even data transfer over my Lan is around 120 MB/s (not Mb/s) via lan-->switch-->lan>netgear nighthawk wifi extender -->router.

have to do it this way as router is about 150 metres from my shed -- "She who must be obeyed" --- doesn't want cables and bits of computer hardware all over the place !!!!!

    Cheers

Quite a long chain, looks like that Startech needs a driver ?
