I left the pc to retry updating and now have a new error code 0x8024a21e.
I might try reverting to the previous build and trying to update from there.
I have tried reverting to the previous build with no success, Microsoft in their wisdom are making it impossible, what a waste of time.

Doesn't have to be on external disk/USB but it has to be mounted so you can start with Setup.exe.

Minor problems with update, jumped back only once and then completed. Noticed the date was still on daylight savings time, recycled the selections and now has the correct time. Did a clean up using storage sense and MR made an image without VSS errors in 04:31, fastest that I can remember. Internet (paying for 60/5) and just got 94.23/7.29 on test. My faithful MS mouse died in the middle of the update, no pulse, lights etc. Now residing in the bottom of my waste basket

I read elsewhere, Snip&Sketch tool now has Windows Snip. Not at PC to test it. AFAIK, this was the last feature left in snipping tool to be transposed to S&S.

Incidentally, I tried the feature to auto add snips to clipboard when you annotate it. It is (imo) more hassle than it is worth as clipboard takes a snip after each action and you can end up with loads of garbage on new clipboard.

Yes, @Edwin mentioned it in this comment, but only some insiders have it (I don't have any of that):
