    Hi there

From the ISO I just ran the setup.exe -- not "Rocket Science". Also at install time I selected offline (i.e local account) not Ms.

The iso is the skip ahead version if you selected that one from the server.

For CLEAN install created bootable ISO with RUFUS on USB stick, booted and installed windows "The usual way".

Didn't need to set any insider stuff at all or any registration etc.

    Cheers

If you ran setup from a mounted ISO, it appears you ran an In-place Update, not clean install.

If you booted a USB Rufus stick made from the ISO, you did a Clean install.

You state both. Which did you do?

18272 is available as a download from MS without using any 3rd party download process. It is both Fast Ring and Skip Ahead at this point.

    not "Rocket Science"

    of course not........

    Hi there
    @f14tomcat.

I DID do both (i.e clean install and an update in place) as I wanted to do complete tests. For clean install I Wiped HDD (it's SSD) before install. For the other one I just updated in place from 1803 standard W10. For update in place just click on the iso and run setup.exe --install as per normal windows install -- keep files etc when prompt appears.

I take image backups after each install so it's only around 7 mins to restore on system I'm using. The actual Windows install itself using the iso takes about 25 mins - doesn't seem to matter whether clean install or update in place.

Note on the 1803 system I wasn't enrolled into any insider program.

Advantage of course of multiple image backups --can re-test or whatever any version I like "Ad Nauseam" and revert to standard working system when I'm done. I prefer to test on a nice humungously fast i7 Laptop as all operations work surprisingly fast.

    cheers

ok, now is clearer. There was no distinction before of which you had done to what. The in-place would, of course, have kept your Skippy status, and the clean 1803 , of course, has nothing to do with Insider. They were intermingled in the series of posts, so was difficult to sort.

All done. Question answered. Case closed. Thanks.

    Jimbo,

It might be less confusing if instead of saying 'skippy' or 'the previous skippy' you would cite the build number. 'Skippy' as an official 'ring' doesn't exist yet for Insiders. The 18272 build is the straight up Fast Ring build now. By 'Skippy', do you mean builds that are leading to 2H19? What build numbers?

You can get the Skippy's (and other releases) from UUMDUMP -- it will download selected version and create an iso which you can then use to clean install or update -- you don't need to be a member of any insider program for this.

    UUP dump

    the instructions are easy enough.

BTW take backup of your system before doing update / installing so you can revert easily enough.

Choose Build, Language, W10 version etc.

    Have fun.

    Hi there

The latest I have is the 18272 which I suppose will be the basis for the next set of builds - whenever they appear. For day to day work I'm using standard current build with its updates -- build 1803. For testing I use that build as a base and then make 2 tests -- 1) a clean build from an iso, and 2) an update running the .exe file from within windows.

Running an update from a standard known build IMO is a more valuable test than running say from the various 1809 builds out there since you are possibly testing from a non supported build with all sorts of possible defects in it whereas the next official release will certainly come from a currently supported build used by the vast base of typical users out there.

Skippy seems to be alive although last build was same as Fast:

I wouldn't call that Skippy, even if you were nominally in the Skip Ahead ring when you got it - I'd call it regular old Fast Ring. It is in the lineage that will become 1H19. The branch leading to 2H19 will be Skippy. Skippy means Skip Ahead one version past the Fast Ring. Presumably the join-up window for Skip Ahead will open up once 1809 is re-released or unpaused or whatever you want to call it.

    Hi folks

I think we all called it skippy as there was only 1 build as opposed to the various fast / slow ring builds out there as well as the paused general 1809 update -- I don't know how many flavours of build 1809 exist out there now.

I agree though less confusion if one specifies what build is being used.

It just happened to be only new build for Skippy and Fast rings so it's as much Skippy as Fast ring build. That happened before, at some point they will diverge. I't's called 19H1 for now, they are fixin' to change name, probably Vanadium. Will see yet what transpires.
So, I'm enrolled in Skippy and got Skippy build.
If I was enrolled in Fast ring I would get fast ring build although both may be same.

The builds are identical - there is only one buold now rings have merged. Only difference is Skip Aheads sees early sight of some uwp apps before released to Fast Ring.
