    Hi folks

found another defect with this build

USB3 Anker 3 port device with built in LAN connector -- the LAN keeps dropping (i keep hearing the windows event ping) and laptop reverts back to wifi which is far slower than the 100 Gb/s ethernet of course.

Strangely enough though a separate stand alone USB3->LAN adapter (also by ANKER -- usually very reliable) works. I know it's this build and not dodgy hardware as this hardware works on the same machine when booting up other OS'es (including various versions of Windows).

I think I read somewhere that there are some random problems with INTEL / USB3 on this build Haswell etc CPU's.

    Cheers

I don't know if anyone else has had this issue on this build, but I plugged in an external drive I have not used for some time. Whilst in was recognised in Computer Management, a drive letter was not automatically assigned, as normal. Once I allocated a drive letter is was fine.

    Hi there
Had this problem many times with USB3 devices on this skippy release, as well as SSD's connected externally via SATA-->USB3 connectors.

Control panel-->admin tools-->disk management then change / add letter -- then it's fine.

Seems there's something with USB 3 drivers or whatever with this release.

That said I've had the odd USB 3 HDD not show up also on 1803 (current windows release) after last lot of updates. HDD's are fine once you assign a letter to them. Nothing like as bad a problem as on the skippy.

Biggest problem on skippy is the defects with File explorer -- nearly lost an entire drive because it was showing me old data from a removed drive and not the one I'd plugged in -- refresh doesn't seem to work in any predictable manner.

This build is too unreliable for me to use it for anything serious -- not going to risk losing up to 4TB of data on an external 4TB drive because file explorer isn't working properly !!!!

I wonder how Ms actually tests stuff or does any QA before letting this type of build out of the door -- I understand software of this nature is testing and will likely have defects - but basic Windows functions that have been working "Since Pontius was a Pilot" should not suddenly be riddled with errors.

Thanks..odd but never had that issue. The drive was showing in the system tray as 'External Drive' which could be ejected, but nothing in Explorer! Took me a few minutes to think of going into Computer Management. Looks like I'm learning....

For me 1809 also has bugs but much less than 1803.
In addition, windows update has become my number one enemy.
Three days ago, it automatically installed a driver for the video card (Intel Corporatin - Display - 25.20.100.6371), the driver version that I can not find nor on the site at Intel but not even in the MU catalog.
In the MU Catalog, the last driver is 24.20.100.6287.
This 6371 driver gives me many BSODs and I have to uninstall it every time and WU automaticaly installs it again and... take it over and over again.
I had a similar experience about 3 weeks ago with another Intel driver that WU installed automatically, although the driver is not for my motherboard and there is no hardware resource for it.
I wonder if we're not just insiders for windows, but we've become insiders for drivers.

    Hi there
Windows file explorer -- context menu problem (map network drive) works fine on the PREVIOUS skippy to this one.

I just re-installed this skippy from scratch with no extras e.g just GB English and GB keyboard (std qwerty).
Same problem -- even swapped Mice to check wasn't a hardware defect -- also used a PS2 type mouse for a test as well.

I used the iso created from UUPDUMP site -- the iso AFAIK is fine . I created bootable iso via RUFUS -- can't think why that could cause a problem. !! Booted it and ran complete new install wiping old SSD.

    Cheers

Jimbo... slightly OT, but you say you clean installed Skippy. Was your Skip Ahead status still available? I Thought they had closed it. Or did you do some Registry Voodoo?

    @f14tomcat

You can get the Skippy's (and other releases) from UUMDUMP -- it will download selected version and create an iso which you can then use to clean install or update -- you don't need to be a member of any insider program for this.

    UUP dump

    the instructions are easy enough.

BTW take backup of your system before doing update / installing so you can revert easily enough.

Choose Build, Language, W10 version etc.

    Have fun.

Jimbo...I think you may have misunderstood....

I've been an Insider for forever, including Skippy and everything else, and have used UUP Dump (mini server) till I've worn holes in it.

    My question is:

Since you clean installed Skippy, and the Skip Ahead part of the Insider Program is now closed to further new participants, how did you manage to set the clean install to the Skip Ahead Ring?

    Hi there
    @f14tomcat
From the ISO I just ran the setup.exe -- not "Rocket Science". Also at install time I selected offline (i.e local account) not Ms.

The iso is the skip ahead version if you selected that one from the server.

For CLEAN install created bootable ISO with RUFUS on USB stick, booted and installed windows "The usual way".

Didn't need to set any insider stuff at all or any registration etc.

    Cheers
