We've heard you loud and clear! We're working to bring Skype for Windows 10 to the system tray! While it's not out the door quite yet, you can expect the new system tray icon will:
- Be displayed whenever Skype is running
- Show sign-in and sign out state
- Show a badge for any unread messages
- Give the option to go to settings, open the app and sign in quickly from the right click menu.
Please reply below with any additional requests for the system tray.
We hope you are just as excited about this feature as we are! We will let you know as soon as it's released!

I like how they are introducing something like a system tray icon that should of been a feature from the start and acting like it's some great innovation.
I think it's hilarious that Microsoft think we should be as excited as they are about this![]()
Will this make it even harder to uninstall Skype than it is right now? I don't use Skype, I don't want Skype, but it is really hard to get rid of IMO
Can't count how many skype system trays I have disabled over the years. Just an unnessary startup for most of my clients.
Adding a tray icon? I don't get it. There always has been a Skype and SfB tray icon, but by default it was hidden and you had to click the tray open arrow. You just had to set it to always visible to have in the tray.
