I used UUPDump and UUPtoISO to do the upgrade. It took 45 minutes total. From clicking on Setup to being back to the desktop took 27 minutes. Because of past experiences and from reading some of the post I didn't bother trying Windows Update.
I could make my command file even slicker if I could work out how to mount a vhd with a specific drive letter.
I currently create the vhd and assign a drive letter upfront.
Creating the vhd from a command prompt is easy but I have not been able to work out how to assign a specific drive letter - any idea?
I succeeded in creating an iso from UUP dump files last night. Now I have started the windows update process and have reached the downloading stage. I have finished downloading at 60%. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Complete. ISO created uuptoiso uploading to OneDrive. I don't note the time - just the outcome.
I tried to update my pc with Cylance installed. I got a warning during the installation, that Cylance had put a file in quarantine. And as expected after that, the installation process rolled back to previous build. Uninstalled Cylance and the update went through.
Only downside of this is that you cannot upgrade a vhd unless you attach it to hyper-v. To boot a vhd in hyper-V it also needs its own efi (I only do uefi) partition as well. I used to either create the first vhd in hyper-v which tended to be slow on my pc, or messed around copying or creating an efi partition on vhd as well. Then one day a light bulb lit in my head.
What I do now is I have a vhd that just contains the three hidden partitions (only need efi actually) and I attach that as well as my vhds that only contain the C drive created on host.
Works great and I just fire up hyper-v to update vhd that is still attached as a host boot.

sounds like a great idea -- any links on how to boot into a vhd from start up -- a menu would also be nice so one could select which vhd to boot into. I remember some of this around at XP and W7 time but long since forgotten.
Appreciate any links on doing this --in theory should be OK. I don't have trouble with creating the vhd but how to boot into it.

What an absolute farce this "Update" has been....round and round and round numerous times.....how are we expected to test the product when an unfit for distribution is let loose on us that cannot even be installed effectively using Update....M$ should not take our good will for granted.
